Light 19 = Better performance?

Alright, I already have an eibach drop on my 03 cl-s6 and i'm now looking into rims. so here goes.

17" are oem
18" are for looks and performace
19" looks

so i was thinking, if i get light 19" (a bit lighter than stock), will performance be the same?

Performance how? Only thing that makes larger wheels give a performance gain is they are typically wider and as such you can use wider tires. If you are thinking about straight line acceleration than the formula you want is the moment of inertia..

moment of inertia = (mass)(radius^2)

for example.. a 17" wheel at 25lbs(Don't know the stock wheel weight) has a moment of inertia of around .53 while a 19" wheel at 22lbs is .58
17" = .4318 meters / 2 = .219(radius)
25 lbs = 11.34kilograms(mass)

.219^2 = .048 x 11.34 = .53

19" = .4826 meters / 2 = .241(radius)
22lbs = 9.98kilograms(mass)

.241^2 = .058 x 9.98 = .58
So, as you can see, to make up for the drastic change in diameter you need to significantly reduce weight to not lose acceleration. In the case of 25lb 17" wheels, you need a 20lb 19" wheel to have roughly the same moment of inertia.

well you can go with low profile tires... and make the radius the same

215/50/17
235/35/19
these are the same in OVERALL radius

i used this: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
