Help deciding on tires... (OEM wheels)

Hi guys,

I'm at 5/32nds on my tires on my '03 CLS 6sp and would like to choose the next set to purchase. I have the OEM wheels on the car and I live in Chicago (snow and rain are common).

I wanted to see what you guys recommend, I currently have some Hankook Ventus V12 and they ride ok. I just drove from Chicago to Yellowstone and back through Salt Lake City and Denver and they worked out well.

Things to consider:
- I can't afford winter and summer tires so I'm looking at all season tires.
- I would like to find the optimal spending point (as close to $100/ tire as possible)
- I liked how my Cooper Zeon tires 225-45-17 looked on my '02 CLS (wider and slimmer)

I had Goodyear eagle gt that we're pretty cheap and handled well wet or dry. I have no Idea how they handle in snow/ice because I live in florida

I always get Yokohama YK580's since I'm a weirdo...maybe that's why I can't afford new wheels! LOL I go through tires like water!

Those Cooper ones are nice looking....and GEEZ, they're ~$30 cheaper.... Uhhh....so, don't get those Yokohama's...

I have heard good things about these tires. My uncle has them on his maxima 6 spd and they grip well and you can't even tell the roads are wet when it is raining

I also have Continental Extreme DWS & they are smooth riding, very quiet, & handles well. Screams a bit going around a curve at 40 mph but that fine with me. Maybe a bit expensive but well worth the money. I had Bridgestone Potenza G019 Grid before & they sounded like knobby snow tires on a Mac truck.

My vote is Conti DWS.. I have them on my Evo and they are one of the best all around tires.

Thanks guys, I'm impressed by the amount of votes for the Continental ExtremeContact DWS.

Would tire rack be the best place to buy them?

That is where I got mine & plan to get a +1 upgrade next year from them again.

I just went through a set of the Continental ExtremeContact DW (I'm in fl and rarely get snow here) and they were excellent. They have more of a highway tread pattern than the DWS and really starting preforming well after about a thousand miles. Quiet, smooth and easily balanced out.

Thumbs up

I currently have the conti's on and am surprised how long they have lasted and handled thus far. Am looking at picking up another set right away.
hope this helps
