Custom Coilover Spring Rates Question...Tein vs. KSport

Ok so here's the deal guyz, I've been researching for a while on different susp. setups for my 01 CL-S and after carefully taking everything into consideration I've decided to go with the K-Sport Kontrol Pro'z.
(but If i hit the lottery then itz Tein SS-P's w/ EDFC all day!!! )

Anyway, I've spoken to a few ppl with both setups (Tein SS-P's and KSport Kontrol Pro'z) and everyone who's had both setups for the most part can agree that the Tein's offer a softer and closer to stock ride which is kinda what i'm aiming for btw...

Now with that said...I've noticed that the spring rates are different on the 2 setups and I've also notcied that i can order the K-Pro'z with custom spring rates...(as you can any other full coilover setup)

Tein http://www.tein.com/price/acura.html
Front = 7/392
Rear = 4/225

KSport http://www.ksportusa.com/asp/coilove...roduct_id=cd01
Front = 12/672
Rear = 7/392

So my question to you guyz out there in Acura-Land is if i were to get the K-Pro'z with custom rates (7/4 instead of 12/7) how would the ride be affected?
I'm guessing it would be a similar ride to the Tein's (softer) but what do you guys think? Anyone else out there running different rates then the off the shelf rates? Any input is always appreciated...

With a lower spring rate it will obviously be a softer ride. I was told by a non-acurazine vendor that going with lower spring rates on KSports void the warranty. Double check on that though before ordering. Since KSports arent built per order, different springs are just that - different springs. The valving of the strut itself is unchanged, so the setup wont be optimal.

So I'm guessing the valving on the Tein's adjusts to the spring rate depending on your custom rate?

and I'm inquiring about the warranty as we speak...

Can anyone else shed some light on this?

Hey guys, here's some info on the Kontrol Pros, especially regarding spring rate.

As long as you stay within 2kg/mm +/- of the spring rates listed on our website, your valving will be adequate.

Warranty is on a case by case basis. By looking at a shocks internals, our techs can determine what has caused a damper to fail. Generally, going 2-3kg/mm softer will not cause any issues, assuming proper installation.

It's hard to judge ride quality by looking at specs on paper. Assuming identical shocks, with identical valving, then yes the Teins would feel softer. I have no idea how the Teins are valved, though. The Kontrol Pro would most likely be stiffer than OEM. Your best bet would be to find someone local that would be willing to give you a ride, or maybe let you drive their car.

If you guys have any more questions, feel free to post here, PM me, email me, or call us at 480 829 8100.

Good luck choosing coilovers!

I wish I could have just edited my other post to include this, but oh well.

The Teins may be valved for a softer spring rate, but both the Teins and Kontrol Pros offer adjustable damping. Tein SS-P's offer 16 levels, while the Ksport Kontrol Pro offers 36 levels.

Wow, thankz for all the info Matt but i now have a few more things to take into consideration with the K-Sport setup. So judging off of what you said about the warranty the Tein spring rates (7/4) wouldn't work...well they wouldn't work with the front spring rates anyway....but Whats the range for height adjustment? If anything i can get around the "rubbing" issue by raising it up a bit but my biggest concerns are potholes and ride quality. I already know that the potholes i'm just going to have to deal with as far as watching out for them but i don't want to end up blowing another tire (for the 3rd time) because my suspension is too stiff.

I'm still leaning towards the K-Sports and i'm def. going to get custom rates but i also don't want any issue's with the warranty. If something breaks then it should be replaced IMHO, i can't afford to be the test dummy here lol so I'm thinking a rate somewhere in between the two would be best for my needs. Maybe a 9/6 or a 10/5!?!?!? But with a custom rate is there anything else that i need to take into consideration? I know these companies choose these rates for a reason and that any little suspension issue can make a huge difference in the car's handling so Matt if you were in my shoes which rates would you go with?

The Car will be daily driven with added weight (subwoofers) in the trunk

BTW does anyone in the upstate N.Y. area have the K-Sport setup or stock setup that is willing to take me for a ride? I haven't had the luxury of riding on stock susp or the K-Sport setup yet...

Why don't you want to keep it? Do you need a stock hood to replace it?

I plan to get the K-Sports, i was debating on what custom spring rates to get. I can't match them up evenly to the Tein Spring rates because the shocks aren't made for it and it'll void the warranty but they do allow a 2-3kg +/- difference from oringal listed rates that'll retain the warranty. So i may get them 2-3kg softer then the off the shell spring ones....

so did you ever decide on what spring rates to go with. I'm also considering getting the Ksports.
