Comments about the Michelin tires on wet roads..

Guys, this is just my opinion. I drove the same Michelins on my Accord EX for 50K miles and over the years have had Goodyear GT 4 as well as GT2.... I also know that the CLs handle better than the Accord but we are talking tires here.

When it rains, slow down cause those Michelins suck.. With the Michelins, I would brake at 65mph on the highway and aquaplane. I have since replaced them with BFG Controls and they tons better than the Michelins.

Like I said, this is my opinion, but I truly hated those Michelins.

Be interesting to see what you guys think...

Stock Michelin tires would love to skate on small patches of water, doing 70 on hilly billy HW and geting a "light" steering wheel for a .2 sec is not fun, scarry..

One of the reasons I dumped the stock MXM4s (they still look new and are up in my spare garage) was they were so bad on the freeway and in the wet in general, that I knew they would just "give way" in an avoidance maneuver.

The stock tires suck in the wet and on new pavement. They also squeal like pigs.

The Toyo T1S Proxies allow faster speeds in the wet, than the stock tires did in the dry.

The freeway is a no-brainer -- the Toyo's feel safer at 80 MPH in a tropical storm than the stock tires did in light rain at 50 MPH.

I didn't know stock tires were hated that much. I tend to keep it around 60 in the rain on the freeway.
What about Pirelli? How do they fare overall? My next set would be all weather.

If you tried some different tires (like the Toyos or others) you would never want to put the stock ones back on. For fun, ask anyone if they would like to go back to stock tires after changing to different ones. I would sure be interested in those replies...

The Pirelli PZero (not Rossos) are not very good in the wet.

I would never use the Toyos in the snow.

Ask about the Yoko AVS DBs in 235/45-17 and/or the Dunlop 5000s. I'm putting the Yokos on my wife's car -- they are the best I could find in a 205/60-15 size...

See the TireRack link for Ultra High Performance All Season Tires:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/uhpas.jsp

The AVS DBs are rated #1
The Dunlops #2

Check out the MXM "Grand Touring" category -- they are rated a "6" (in the 'Would buy again' category) -- not very inspiring. The "6" means someone would "possibly" buy them again. Enough said?

It seems like most of the guyz with Toyo Proxes T1-S's tend to install them on aftermarket rims that are different (larger and/or wider) than our stock 17x7" factory rims, and go to a different size (diameter and aspect ratio) tire (235's, 240's, etc). On their web site, Toyo sez that a 235/45-17 needs an 8" wide rim. That kinda rules out our stock 7" rim, doesn't it?

So, my next question is, if I want to go to the Toyo Proxes T1-S's , but keep my OEM rims (using 215/50-17's), will I still see the same handling improvements as you guyz did?

Thanks.

I can't speak for the guys who went lower and wider, but the Toyo 215-50s are fantastic and a HUGE difference over stock. I can't chirp them no matter how hard i try, and the grip in corners is amazing. When i wear these out in 20k or so, i'll be ready to upgrade to wider wheels and tires, Toyos of course !

Well here is my .02$, from what I hear the stock Michelins that Honda/Acura ship on their cars are of a harder compound to make them last longer than the same tires you would buy at you local tire store. The Michelins still suck, but if you were to replace them with a set bought afterwards you would probably notice a difference.

I think the reasoning behind this was to satisfy most of the 'General public' that don't like to drive their cars hard. WIth the harder compound tires they tend to last longer.

Thanks, guyz, for your feedback. Now if my freakin' Michelins would ever start to show some signs of wear...

I have 23,000 miles on the car but only about 15,000 on the Michelins. They were fine when new but after 15,000 miles they have the handling prowess of trying to do the Texas 2 step in big floppy clown shoes. In short they suck. I thought my Bridgestone Blizzaks were bad handling in the dry but these are terrible. JZ put Potenza RE730's on his and they look good and handle nicely.
