But it would diffuse out at a much faster rate than air, that is, you would have to top it off every single day.
There is no reason it would be unsafe, unless you treat it like normal air and check pressure once a week.
Although there is indeed a theoretical reduction in rotating masss and unsprung mass, the difference is less than the brake dust that coats your rims. Which is to say that there is no difference for all the hassle.
In contrast, lightweight rims (7.5x17", SSRs, Volks, etc.) can possibly drop 12lbs from each wheel. But each corner's unsprung mass is something like ~70lbs for the average independent susp, working against sprung mass of ~800lbs per corner.
