Anyone know how to get this tape/rust thing off my rims?
Hey, so two of my rims have like this old ruff tape looking thing on the lip of the rim and i tried using GOO GONE to get it off but no use... Could it be from old age? Would i need to sand it down or something? Anyone heard of such a thing? I bought my rims used and it was already on it, so... any comments would be appreciated! thanks guys

you will have to buy paint stripper and take off that clear coat then u can use steel wool and metal polish and they would be like new. but u would have to keep up withthe polishing.
or u can buy paint stripper and remove the clear coat then use fine steel wool then just reclear coat the the lip.

It looks like the backing of those sticker wheel weights. Try taking a razor blade and cut as much off that you can and then soak with an adhessive cleaner for a few minutes. Should come off. Just be careful with the blade to not scrach the rim. Personally I would NOT use sand paper!

That is a POLISHED LIP, so do not use sandpaper OR steel whool OR razor blades, you will scratch the crap out of the metal. Also, there is no clearcoat on polished aluminum wheels. Either paint remover or acetone (my preference) should work great. Trust me, I'm a detailer.

yes there is and i do polish rims on the side and engine parts.
i have 19in c2's that had to get the lips redone! those rims have a thin clear coat on them to keep them from tarnishing.
ive owned alot of rims with polish lips and most of them have a clear coat on them unless u get them custom polished (meaning once a week or so u will have to pullout the metal polish to take off the tarnish)
if theres no clearcoat on them then those lips would be dull
