Anyone have speedo errors after installing wheels?
Did anyone have any major issues with their speedo after installing aftermarket wheels? I'm looking to get 18 x 8 wheels and 225/40/18 tires with H&R Sport springs (1.75in/1.75in). I'm concerned with rubbing and speedometer errors. Is it easy to re-calibrate the speedo? Will this setup rub?
1. Without the offset -- you're in a crap shoot...
2. I hope you get Toyo T1S or Nitto 555s in the 225/50-18 (they have a 92XL load rating). The bulk of the great tires on TireRack in that size only have a load rating of 88 (IMO -- that is just too low)
3. If you find the wheels in the 18x??? +??? offset you like, you might want to consider the 225/45-18 (if the tires come from TireRack) they will at least have a load rating of 91SL. If you want the closest speedo reading, go with the 235/40-18 (You will need 18x7.5 or 18x8 +48 - +50 offset to avoid the inside of the rear fender and you could still end up with some rubbing in front if you toss in the Konis (long story).
The more you lower, the tighter it gets...
If you mention CLS to TireRack they may refuse to sell you tires with load ratings below 93…
Finally (more than you ever want to know), some makes of tires with nice fat contact patches (S-02, S-03, Toyos T1S) will rub more than tires with narrower section and tread widths.
