Question +38 offset

Anybody on here running a +38 offset w/ 18" rims? I just had a huge round about w/ Wheelfire.com about giving me false information that the rim/tire would fit. I'm getting my fenders rolled here soon to hopefully fix the problem. If we have a factory ~+50 offset that extra 1/2" that the +38 offset puts out there is F-ing me right now....I guess I'm looking for a confidence booster right now b/c I'm pissed at the customer service dude...that a$$hole told me to go back to stock suspension b/c I'd be happier w/ rims opposed to being lowered! WTF does he know...

What is the width of the wheel, and also what is the tire size you are using? A friend of mind is on 19x9's with low 30 offsets on his cl, so don't be too discouraged. Camber / type of suspension / fender mods / tire sizes all come into play with the more aggressive widths and offsets though. Maybe we can offer some help if you provide us with a lil more info.

38 is too low. There's just too much compromise to get them to fit. Return them.

18x8 with 235/40's on tein basics. No camber correction as of right now, I'm waiting to see if fender rolling will help it.

Fuzzy - what do you mean by too much compromise to get them to fit? I asked the guy at customer service if I could return them for another set of equal or lesser value, and just transfer the tires since I've already driven on them. His reply was that I'd have to pay shipping back to them, the mount and balance cost and the S&H back to me. I'm guessing that's around another $500+ all together which would put me at $1700 for the set up (paid $1200 for what I have now)....what compromises would I have to make to stay w/ what I have now?

Skinner tires, negative camber,(will add to tire wear) rolled fenders, & you may still rub with weight in the car.
Ebay them if you can't return.
It's not a 1/2 inch, it's 1.5 inches with the rim width.

Yeah I forgot about the rim width in the equation...damn it! Would they work if I wasn't lowered? Not that I'll change that but I'm looking for another point to argue w/ the company....ebay & craigslist here I come!

If not lowered they likely would fit. Most wheel sites have fitments for stock height cars. If your lowered, your on your own as to weather they fit or not.

They will fit and sit nice and flush if your fenders are rolled.

These are 19x8s +35 with 225/35 tires on em. On tein basics they rubbed on the bumper tab at this height pretty bad, so you'd need to hack that off too though.

Smoke - Thanks for the confidence boost man and the pic. I just got the rear fenders rolled today but I think the dude did a shotty job as it was an under the table kind of deal I found out at the end of the transaction! I'll post pics of that tomorrow. Did you roll front and rear? I know it's a dumb question....

I'm looking at new rims now, is it safe to go w/ an 18x8 rim if the offset is +45 or +48 or should I just stick w/ whatever by 7" or 7.5"??? Thanks again!

im a bit confused, if u have the rims in your possession then why dont you put them on the car and see what you have to do to make them fit? im running 17 X 8.5 wheels on the back of mine with 255 wide tires, and +40 offset, rubbing was only at the back and due to the wide tires. Nothing a little fender rolling didnt fix. I still rub from time to time but with the tabs pushed back it just grazes the tire instead of fully cutting into it

Type Stylin - I have 18x8's offset of +38 w/ 235/40 tires, just got the fenders rolled (which looks like shit) and it still rubs from time to time now. I'd prefer NO rubbing b/c I talk about my car alot and if I give somebody a ride for th first time or somebody sees it for the first time and hear that rubbing noise it really kills my buzz and the pride I have in my car goes to embarrassment.

I was also told that if I took my rims to a machine shop it's possible to grind out the backs a few millimeters (2-5mm MAX) to increase that offset. Wouldn't this severely weaken the rim?

lol rubbing is nothing to be embarrassed about, it means u're low and have an aggressive fitment. Run some 225 tires and u should be ok

i rolled the rears myself with a rented tool. not much to roll in the front tho, so i didnt touch it.

youre gonna need to grind away a part of the bumper tab and it should get rid of mostly all the rubbing. if its still bad then just raise it up a tad. tein basics ride like shit all the way down anyway..

i wouldnt recommend grinding the inside of the wheel away though.

What really makes me mad is that I jump on ebay and see the fender rolling tool for rent for $40-60 w/ a heat gun OR you can buy the damned thing for $225!!! I paid $100 for the crap job I got

holy shit dude, please tell me thats not what im seeing... i dont intend to make u feel any worse but that is definately one of the worst jobs i have ever seen of a fender roll..

Was this the guys first car???

Bring that poor cl to a body shop quick and have that fixed... it wont be too costly, but damn that is not easy on the eyes...

and ive said it before, but ive always taken the "cutting" approach rather than the "rolling" approach, for this reason among others...

PS a little rubbing is nothing too be embarrassed about, constant rubbing sure...

Yeah that's what your seeing...I know it's a horrible job and I've never seen a rolled fender before! I know damned sure it's NOT supposed to look like that though. I took it to a place called Aragon's Paint and body, seemed legit b/c there were a BUNCH of slammed mini trucks but when I went to pay and he didn't take credit card or give me a reciept I knew right there I was F#@K'D

Ralphie - If I took it to a body shop ( a real one that has referrals) what would I ask them to do? Would I just say fix this???

I was under the impression either a "friend" or just some guy did it... if you took it to a business i would ask to speak with a manager or an owner and show him the job and point out the guy who worked on it...

I would be a little reluctant to have them work on my car again, so much so that i probably would rather take it somewhere reputable and pay out of pocket to fix the damage they caused...

If they gaurantee they can fix it (it will need to be pulled/banged out at the very least, bondoed, primered and painted on the extreme end) to pre-shit job condition, i might let them have a crack at it...

however at the very very very minimum you should get all your money back, and as a longshot have them pay a good body shop to fix what they did...

I would assume its safe to say they would rather refund you the 100 bucks, than take it upon themselves to correct the damage... unless they actually give a shit about the reputation of their business in which case they would want you to leave happy...

I still cant get over the fact that these people had the audacity to let the car leave the shop in that condition...

To answer your question, i would explain to the new body shop what happened. Then ask them what they have planned in order to fix it... while your at it, you might want to ask them to correctly roll your fenders too since they are correcting what the other place messed up.

my car is the first car i rolled fenders on. my friend and I split the fender rolling tool (he did his and I did mine). cost us both about 45 bux each.

i seriously cant believe what we're seeing here...

I have cell phone records that I spoke w/ the shop, ATM transaction of when I took out the money to pay him b/c he didn't accept credit card and I have my wife saying that she picked me up from there and dropped me off to pick up my car....just curious b/c I want to have my ducks in a row for when I go there tomorrow

38 offset on a 6.5 wheel will be a "correct fit"

I can honestly say I thought the guy worked for the shop around the corner and that was his "off time" shop to pull in some extra bucks. I didn't know it was cash only until AFTER the work had been done....

What I need to know is what course of legal action could I have if this joker decides to give me a big F-U when I ask/tell him to fix it or get it fixed...??? I'm going there first thing in the morning so all the info I can get tonight would be great

Its gonna take getting sneaky.... but theres always a course of action... When i was at the point of deciding to take someone to court i had sort of a similar situation...

Guy was providing me with a service that should have taken 2 weeks and went on 7 months... on our last encounter i went in to talk with him with my cell phone in hand, subtly holding it to the side... i recorded our entire conversation, both video and audio...

Lucky for me, i stopped the recording about 2 minutes in because he actually finished what i contracted him to do.....

I had a "candy bar" style phone, so it wasnt like it was flipped open or he could have any idea i was recording him...

You can get creative with it im sure... maybe have your wife hide a camera in her purse.. etc...

Not sure how much value it will prove, but it might scare the shop into doing the right thing if they choose otherwise.. and if they choose otherwise i would probably bring them to small claims...

Legal action for you? No.
However, an anonymous call to the PD saying this guy is dealing in stolen parts, or you suspect some illegal activity may warrant an investigation.

So pretty much my only option is hope for goodwill from this guy? That sucks. If he says he will fix it and jacks it up more then what? Just screwed myself even more? What's this anonymous call thing? hahha

Make sure that you contact the Better Business Bureau in your area, and report teh faulty shop if he decides not to honor the work done.

holy, those are ugly fenders now. you could've done it with a baseball bat (which many people do) and get a better result for a newb too.

i think you're SOL though. should've got the right wheels in the first place.

LMAO..sorry for your misfortune...but that is the worst fender roll i have ever seen in my life. looks like he beat your fenders with a metal hammer. shoulda DIY with a baseball bat or a piece of dow with a towel wrapped around it.

oh well next time you know at least...
