1pc, 2pc, 3pc, wheels.

I feel like I'm stuck in a Dr.Seuss book.

WTF is the # of pieces on a wheel?

Does a three piece wheel mean it has two pieces that can be taken off it?

If so, that sounds really crappy considering there's so many thieves out there stealing shit - not to mention what if you hit a pothole, would a piece fall off?

What's the deal with the # of pieces a wheel has?

A piece wheel means its made from that many parts. For example...a two piece wheel, such as BBS or SSR's are made from 1 piece that contains one side and the actual rim that teh tire sits on, and one more "cover" to close the wheel. In my opinion, 1 piece wheels are the best, reason being is that since they are made from one solid piece of metal, they are much stronger and thus more resistant to denting. Rims with those screws or whatever you call em (the ones around the edge...not the lugs) are piece wheels. Hope that helps.

Actually, it's the opposite, 3-piece rims are stronger because they have more structure to them.

yeah...i've heard the same...3-piece stronger...and sometimes...may be cheaper to repair...i.e. just replace once piece of the rim as opposed to replacing the whole rim...

actually it is impossible to make a blanket statement that either one is better. it is actually the quality of the metal that makes the biggest difference. i've seen 3 piece rims bend like mad (granted they were probably knockoffs) on some pretty small potholes.

I know there was a page linked here a few days ago that lists a whole rack of wheels and how they are made (forged, cast, etc) and at the bottom it said what processes are the strongest.

Does anyone have that URL?

I'd like to know what processes are the strongest.

Since 3-piece rims are generally more expensive than one piece rims, for the most part, I don't think they would be cheaper to repair. Maybe the better way to put it is that they are more capable of being repaired.
