I'm looking at a set of wheels with the described dimensions. Will they fit under an '03 cls without sticking out the sides?

No, they will stick out too much.

18x8 +50 just clears the inside wheel well lining.

Here's my TL with 18x8 +50

They will fit. They will stick out. You will rub with 235-40 tires. You might not with 225-40 tires. I had 18X8's +42 droped on CT springs with 235-40 tires & rubbed on big bumps & with any weight in the car.

You will definitely rub. I use to have Racing Hart M5 18x7.5 (+42 offset) on my TL-S (now my bro's car) before and it still rubbed so I had to get my rear fender rolled. He currently has 18x8 SSR GT1 (+48 offset) w/235-40-18 and no rubbing.

Has anyone looked into camber to prevent rubbing?
I'm sure it'll help if the tire can tuck under on load.

The only way to do it will ruin the tires since they will have to angle in at the top and out at the bottom. Not worth it.

Not the best solution, but with a 42 or a 43 offset, there are some places that can shave off a couple mils and get it closer to a 45 offset if necessary. They will not usually do more than 4 mils, but that will be enough. Also with the 18x8, you MAY be okay if you use 225 tires as opposed to 235's.

Well for "worth" I think it depends on what people want. With the additional camber you should be able to corner better. I'm not saying like -2 degrees but like -0.5 or -1. When I got my alignment done I found out that the stock camber setting is 0.0 So I told them I wanted more. Turns out I was maxed out at -0.05 (w/o a camber kit). I ended up lower the car more so I think I got some more camber, and I havn't rubbed at these settings.
