18 inch rim fitment questions-

I have searched, and found several links regarding offset and tire size. It looks like 18x7.5 will fit with a 45 offset (5x114.3 lug pattern). I have a 2nd gen, 2003 Cl-s w/ CT SPRINGS. What other sizes would you recommend I consider so I do not rub? I read how a 48 offset works, but am not too familiar with offest.

Will 18x8 fit, and what offset?

What tire size? Saw threads were 225/40/18 and 225/45/18 have worked on lowered cars. I may purchase tires if they are a good price. These rims will be used only in the late-spring to late-fall as I live in Washington, DC where there are many potholes in the winter. I would prefer a tire size that does not increase the revolutions per mile compared to stock.

Have any of you with aftermarket rims bought 5 rims in case one gets ruined/bent for a spare?

Does anyone know what 5x114.3 inch is in METRIC standard measurement? Not sure if they (Japanese) use inches for lug patterns, however, they sell rims in inches (16, 17, 18, 19, 20, etc..).
-------------------------------------------------

I am writing from Japan, where I will be visitting through July 22nd. I can hear 6 cars a minute (one atleast every 10 second) driving outside w/ exhaust drowning, it is crazy... and I am in the `Country` about 1.5 hours from Hiroshima by local train, not near any big city (currently in Yanai). So far, I have seen dozens and dozens of GT-Rs, Integra Rs, Silvias, a few JDM Honda Inspires, and countless (COUNTLESS) other modded cars since I arrived in Japan from Beijing on the 3rd. Everyone loves TURBO, and have never seen so many intercoolers.

Yellow Hat and Autobac car accesory stores (throughout Japan) have a great selection of new rims, but am not sure if the prices are much lower than in the states. I am most interested in used rims as they may be discounted alot, but we`ll see. If I can pick up some nice used 18 inch rims in good shape for under $750 US that fit my car w/ no issues, I`ll be very very very happy.

Shippping is not an issue. There are five of us travelling, each with one check-in luggage. 2 check-ins are allowed, meaning I can bring back some rims if I find something I like!!

There are lots of used car stores (w/ modded cars), and can only imagine with the number of modded cars around that there are used performance mod shops (especially in Kyoto, Yokohama, or Tokyo). I have 12 days to investigate rims, and want to make sure I get something that fits my 2nd gen. CL if I go through all this trouble.

Wish me luck on my search, the decision to look for rims is kinda spur-of-the-moment. I simply CAN`T STAND seeing ALL these hooked up, dropped, rimmed, kitted cars rolling around, without thinking of my car at home with only CT springs and stocker wheels .

I'm currently running 18x7.5" rims with a +48 offset and 235/40ZR18 tires. However, I have the Brembo 13" front BBK with temp. 6mm wheel spacers installed (until I get 5mm spacers). This equates to a +42 offset with the wheel spacers. I haven't had any rubbing issues yet. But I'd recommend going with a higher offset like +48 because the OEM rims have a +55 offset.

the measurements you listed will fit, but may occasionally rub in the rear with passengers. the sizes are not ideal, but doable. just to play it safe tho, 48 offset and up is the best road to take, that applies to 7.5" wide and 8" wide, and tht will accomodate 235, or 225.

Ok, I will go with atleast a 48 offset, if not more towards 50 if possible. It is not unusual on the weekends to load my car with 4 people, and a trunk full of stuff upwards of 100 pounds.

Would a 7.5 inch rim be better than a 8 inch for my needs so I do not rub? What about tire size, should I do a 235/40/18? Is this size close to stock diameter so I won`t have any mileage/speed issues?

Thanks!

I have Comptech springs, and 235/45/17 wheels on stock rims. Absolutely NO rubbing even with the heaviest loads. I hope to get 235 on my 18" rims, but havent heard from many people who got the 235 on 18s.
