Whistling noise at partial throttle
Hello there are other forums on the TL side that explain a similar problem: During light throttle between 5%-10% there is an audible whistling sound during acceleration. The other forums indicate that it is during a certain RPM, but in my case:
Any throttle under 5% there is no noise
any throttle between 5%-10% there is a whistling noise
any throttle above 10% there is no noise.
It doesn't matter how fast i'm going, it's just during this partial light throttle
there is an audible whistling noise
This problem has occured with:
1. stock intake
2.no intake
3. custom Gtake
The other forums indicate that it has to do something with a heat shield on the brakes or on the wheels, these were on newer TLs 08 and other models.
Can anyone point me in the right direction or does anyone else have these problems?
I'm just worried if it is detrimental for my car and it is annoying to hear the sound during light driving, one remedy is to have an aggressive throttle all the time but i like to drive conservatively sometimes to save gas.
One thing i have thought about was that its just the throttle body partially opening and giving a whistling sound because it is partially open,
I want to blame it on the throttle body or something but i'm not sure how to diagnose this problem. I have cleaned what i can of the throttle body with a rag
I do not have any vaccuum leaks or check engine lights
any ideas?

Usually a whistling noise at low engine load translates to some sort of vacuum leak. See if you can get a smoke test done at a local shop. If you can't a smoke machine from a party supply store will suffice.

Thank you for the input, someday i will find out, so far nothing negative has happened. It was just annoying, but now I am used to it
I probably do have a small vacuum leak as I have a custom intake~!

Hello thank you for the response, It goes away when i shift into neutral, it only happens with light throttle. I have a manual transmission so it might not be related to what you are saying. None the less thank you for the suggestion!

mine does this too for a year ever since I got it. I also got 6speed manual. Tried a couple of things, tightened both manifold and manifold cover, didn't help. Remove the throttle body rubber tube, the sound is still there. So it should be some sound coming from the throttle body, maybe the throttle valve air whistle.
I talked to one mechanic last year and he told me not to worried about it since it's just air sound.
I have been dealing with it basically for a year and probably already got used to it. It doesn't really affect driving and performance but just annoying to hear.
