poor acceleration and gas mileage, CLS 2001

Hi everibody, Im new to this forum but have owned a 2001 CL-S for about 6 years. Ive noticed recently a significant decrease in engine performance: sluggish acceleration, a humming when the car idles, and terrible gas mileage (21mpg highway) I bought the car from a guy who works for Acura and he said the transmission was replace at 102k miles. Currently the car has 145k. I was aware of the transmission recall when i bougth the car and still bought it because I love Acuras.
Another issue is hard shift from 1st to 2nd and very rarely a sudden downshift at cruisin speeds. Any help?? thank you so much

Have you tried a tune-up? Spark plugs (oem NGK's), fuel injector cleaner, valve clearance adjust. Was the timing belt replaced at 105k?

Im experiencing some of the same problems as the original poster but a question to you or anyone is how often should a tune up be done? Ill buy some fuel injector cleaner. Ive had my timing belt replaced 25k miles ago. Also what does a valve clearance adjustment consist of and about how much does that run price wise?

105k service consists of replacing t-belt, spark plugs, and adjusting valve clearance. And it's also not a bad idea to run some BG 44k fuel injector cleaner at 105k too. As long as you use the OEM NGK spark plugs, there shouldn't be a problem with them lasting 100k miles.
Valve clearance adjustment takes 2-3 hours and cost will vary depending on where you take it. You have to remove intake manifold and both valve covers, then check clearance between rocker arm and valve on all 24 valves. Also when checking clearance on the valves, they must be fully seated so you have to rotate the engine accordingly.

Thank you for replying. Ive taken the CLS to my local Honda Dealership and they did a full diagnostic and EFI cleaning for $250. It turned out my front engine mount is bad,my front wheel bearings are worn out, need rear pads and also the fuel injection system was very dirty( lots of smoke during the clean up). Im very happy the tech said the tranny is good and also confirmed it is a remanufactured unit, so the guy who sold it did not lie bout it.
I drove it today anywhere and noticed an improvement. Ive ordered the parts already and will have it fixed soon.
What do you think about installing a cold air intake? Does that work? Do you have one installed in your car?
Thank y'all for your replies

Tech checked the timing and said the belt had been replaced, also pulled the plugs in front of me said they are good original NGK.
Thank you

Yeah, I enjoy my cold air intake. I have an AEM. You do get a small amount of power from one, although hardly noticeable without a dyno. And they sound good.
