Weird one: Bad motor mount leads to ground short?!

Here's a good one - and a good thing to check if you ever experience something similar.

Was cruising at 35 like nothing was wrong in the world, and hit the smallest ripple in the road. Then the car just shuts down, lights and gauges go nuts, weird clicking and a hint of electrical burn.

I thought whatever it was was under the dash and maybe there was a bad relay or a short/loose wire but could not find anything, and no obvious loose wires in the engine bay. I eventually had it taken to the dealer. Oh, and combinations of pushing in the brake pedal and messing with the headlights made the car turn on and shut off.

Apparently, a bad motor mount allowed the engine to torque over just enough to pull a ground in and out. not sure which one yet as I haven't gotten the car back, but I'll let you know and take a picture when it's back.

So, if you're car craps it's electrical pants and you can't figure out why, check your motor mounts.

Good looking out. Very interesting. How does it pull in and out though? I would think they would be attached or detached.

The mechanic and I are pretty impressed/flabbergasted as well, he's never seen it before.

I don't know how it can be somewhat connected, but when I was in my friends car following the flatbed to the dealer, the hazards on my car were flickering on and off on every bump, so something was in-and-out.

Definitely the strangest problem I have heard of in a while. I'm going to have the guy show me exactly what was going on when I pick the car up tomorrow.

Possible the lowering/stiffer ride was a contributing factor...?

something is loose. a main ground or fuse. shouldnt be contributed to stiffer suspension or broken mounts, but it wouldnt help though.
