Understeer, Broken Axle?
Understeer, Broken Axle?
I was driving to school going 80-85 at times (to pass) with no problems what so ever. No dashboard lights besides SRS and all of a sudden, after 30 miles of driving I drove on a slight curve and experienced some understeer. This was my first encounter with it so all I did was turn the wheel more to continue my turn, but after the curve, I began to brake and heard a loud nasty sound on my right tire. Sounded like scrapping of metal or something. I parked to check what it was and it appears as though my Axle got misplaced or something. (So my dad came and traded me cars blah blah) Question; has anyone ever experienced this and how much is repair about?
Thanks in advance

You can pick up a new axle from Advance auto for about $70 per side (get the GSPs, theyre new, not remanufactured). If you are capable of working on it yourself, it shouldnt take more then two hours per side if you've never done it before. Air tools make it much easier but its possible to do it with hand tools.
If you dont want to leak any transmission fluid while doing it, lift one side of the car up at a time and lift it decently high.
