Trunk springs are weak...

I have an 03 CL in great shape. I have the key fob with the remote that will pop open the truck. Well it works but the trunk release springs are real weak and the trunk only opens a couple inches. Also it will fall down do to gravity very easily. Is there anyway to tighten these springs? Thanks....

There's a 2nd perch you can move the trunk springs to. That puts more pressure on them & increases the weigh load. You need a special tool to release the springs.
Or buy new HD springs that came with the Acura spoilers.

Don't need a special tool to replace or adjust the springs. I did mine using the handle of a cresent wrench-caught the free end of the spring in the hole in the end of the wrench handle and used the wrench as a lever to move the spring. Easy to do.

Yeah there is always a work around when "special tools" are required. Can you explain how you did it in more detail? Which end of the spring do I need to take out and what I just bend it alittle? Thanks.

It's kinda hard to describe but let me give it a shot.....

There are 2 trunk springs, you do this to both of them.

One end of the spring is "fixed" inside the trunk, the other attaches to the trunk lid. On the fixed end there are two notches on the body that the spring end can be hooked to-one gives more preload or pressure than the other.

What you have to do is get a grip on the spring and release it from the hook it's on and hook it on the other point-take a look and I think you'll see what I mean.

To grab it what I did was use the handle end of a 12" crescent wrench-hook the end of the spring in the hole in the handle and then use the wrench as a lever to release to spring and re-hook it. There isn't that much pressure so you don't have to grunt a groan, just ease the pressure and gently move the spring and it will go great.

Take a look and see if it makes sense.

Also check some of the Honda/Acura parts websites, if you can find the installation instructions for the spoiler how to change the spring is in there.

Yep once I figured out which way the tension is going I moved the spring to stiffer setting. It did work as you described but it is very hard to expalin. Thanks for the info.
