Exclamation Transmission......

The car drove fine until I stopped at my parents' house. I got out onto the road and the car now stutters between gears and then LUNGES forward when it finally grabs a gear. I took it straight to the dealership the I bought it from to see what they can do. They gave me a loaner car for now, but when I went to move the CL it took almost 3 minutes to find reverse. Any ideas? Or completely shot? This is yet another reason why I don't like automatics!

Looks like the dealership that I bought it from is going to cover all expenses. However, after looking at the costs, I really don't want that lingering over my head in another year or so. The transmission in the car was a warranty/recall replacement by Acura only 10k miles ago!!! I'm looking at trading it in... I've only had it 2 months and it's already costing a lot in maintenance and little projects... CLEAN as can be, but expensive!

Odds are that you will probably have better luck with the new transmission.
Did you know about the transmission woes of the 2G CL/TL when you bought it?

With the redesigned 3rd gear clutch pack, there shouldn't be too much trouble.

The dealership is actually having it fixed by Certified Transmission with a 3yr 36k warranty. Looks like I will get the car back at no cost to me and start looking for the Subaru I originally wanted. I didn't know about the tranny issues with the 2nd Gen CL/TL until after I bought it and joined this forum. Supposedly the transmission shop knows about the CL/TL problems and bore the ports to fix the flow issues in the stock housing. The car will have brand new gears as well so it should run rather smooth.

Look for it to be for sale in a few months. Clean, 2 owner 77k miles.

Just got the car back last night. The shop that I took it to actually dynoed the car as it is "testing the transmission in a controlled environment." For as much as it cost, I figured they'd throw in the dyno sheet. They just said that it produced 220hp/226ft/lb @ the wheels with an automatic transmission........... I think their dyno must be designed for something different as that doesn't seem accurate for CL-S with just an intake and new transmission.

Yea, I'm relatively new. Joined less than a year go I think. Still, I've done my homework on the problem. The post 2005 design allows more fluid to the third gear clutch pack, and it significantly lowers the chance of failure. Statistically speaking, my dealership acknowledged that post 2005 failure rates are very small (relative to pre 2005). Then again, my dealership has lied to me plenty.

Is it still a poorly designed tranny? Hell yea, but it's a lot better than before.

^ This doesn't effect me now as since I went through Certified Transmission rather than the Acura Stealership, they were able to modify the transmission in a way to result in a better design and also attach an after market transmission cooler that is MUCH MORE efficient. Shift speed alone has significantly dropped and I haven't even had the car 24 hours yet.

That's really cool for a shop to custom modify the transmission! I'd be interested to see what/how they changed things. I hope your new tranny lasts.
