Stuck in park with no brake lights

I have a 2003 Acura 3.2TL and the shifter is stuck in park and I also noticed that the brake lights aren't working? Has this happened to anyone and does anyone know how to fix or how much it will cost me? Any info would be appreciated.

It is your Nuetral Saftey Switch, it is what tells the car you are stepping on the brake and so it's ok to let you shift out of park and turn on the brake lights. Part is really cheap and easy to replace. It should be down on your brake pedal.

Na, that isn't the problem. Its the fuse for the rear brake lights, unfortunately I can't remember which one is its. I think its a 20amp fuse on the passenger side or maybe the drivers side???

It means your rear brake lights aren't working and it's a safety mechanism which doesn't let the car move out of park until you fix the brake light problem, you can use the override method but I don't recommend that if your brake lights aren't working.

Might be a fuse but rather brake switch . Its used for both brake lights and lever release

had this problem for years. Definitely was the brake fuse for me. Its labeled STOP and it also is hooked in with the horn. If your horn doesnt work either, you know what it is.

Mine was due to the low horn being shorted, so everytime i hit the horn the brake fuse would blow. Led to some pretty interesting times driving around with no brake lights...

Ha, I could just see someone cutting you off and you want to honk your horn so bad but you can't because you're afraid of blowing the fuse...

The frustration, I can't even imagine..

^^^ Yes check FUSES FIRST. Were I work at I drive a lot of different vehicles and sometimes same thing happens. You either have to hit/press the safety over ride button or turn key forward to unlock steering wheel and shifter then put in neutral then start. When you hit the brakes once its in the shop the most of the times first thing that is noticed the brake lights don't work.
