Steering Wheel Shakes when braking

Anyone know what I need to get done to fix the steering wheel shaking at high speeds when I apply the breaks? Is it an alignment problem? Let me know.

Your brake rotors are warped.

Is that an expensive repair?

Not at all. If you go to an indy shop, they shouldn't charge you more than $10-$15/rotor to resurface them. If you go to the stealer, they'll charge you more. One benefit to taking it to the stealer is that they can resurface the rotor while it's still mounted on the car, helping it to stay more "true".

BTW, it's most likely your front rotors which are warped.

You were kind of overcharged on that.

Check out acuraoemparts.com and magauto.com, among others. IIRC I spent around $60.

I prefer magauto because they are a local dealer, the people are nice and the prices are good.

And programming it isnt that hard either.

I'm going to take it in to acura to have the srs light warranty fix done to it. Other then that there is nothing wrong with the car..runs great! Mechanic looked it over and no leaks and all checks out.

2 questions;

What about the tranny while resurfacing?
how is this more true, the goal is to resurface the rotor not "balance"?

I hope i'm not coming off rude, but i'm just ignorant to the statement?

I have read about the advantages of this so I looked and I found this article regarding on car resurfacing. However....the bearings really SHOULD be serviced at this time to make sure you aren't messing up the rotors any worse than they are or that a worn bearing didn't cause the problem in the first place.

had the same problem, So I had the rotors changed ..
Got Disk Italia drilled rotors.. Looks great and works fine... had all 4 rotors changed so they sent me front brake pads for free....
Only, the brake pads make kind of a different noise. As if there is liquid on the disk.. not the normal pad friction sound I am used to.. But they work..

I have an '02 3.2TL where the steering wheel also shakes under heavy breaking. Just bought the car, engine and drive train are perfect, has 74,640 miles but the front breaks are definitely in need of mending. You mentioned Disk Italia rotors which I am looking into as well. I was thinking of replacing all four rotors with the slotted and drilled D.I. rotors, replacing the pads with the D.I. titanium kevlar pads with the D.I. stainless steel brake lines. I would also like to replace the calipers as mine are very ugly. My question to you is, do you think it's worth spending the money? Are you satisfied with the performance and every other aspect of your Disk Italia's? Also, D.I. doesn't make calipers so can anyone suggest a good, quality caliper replacement?

Yea, Mags parts search is shit. Even they know it, and Ive been trying to get them to change it for a few years.

I usually use HondaPartsUnlimited.com to get part numbers - its also easier to cross reference PNs to see if an Acura part is also a Honda part, therefore cheaper.

I got three PNs, Im not sure which is which

72147-S0K-A23

72147-S0K-A13

72147-S0K-A12

All list for $86.48, ~$65 after discount ($61 on MagAuto). Call them and find out which remote is #1 and which is #2. Its possible the reason Im seeing an extra could be that one part number superseded another (A12 the old #1, A13 the new #1). Just call and verify.

BTW, the key fob is listed under COMBINATION SWITCH.

I live in Westchester County about 20 mins north of Manhattan.....We're like one of the top 5 richest counties in America so a lot of places think everyone around here is rich so they like to charge out the ass for things

And the area the Acura dealer is in is one of those upscale towns so they get away with it since those people don't care about money around there

Im not familiar with the Acura dealer there. I know Rallye Acura on the island, which they bump prices up too but I dont think that bad.

Yea....I used to work out a shop one town over from the Acura dealer and they would rape all these rich customers off since most of them know nothing about what they drive

There are two phillips screws holding the rotors to the hub. You need to use an impact driver to get them out. They are very soft. BTW, this is the second gen forum.
