Recirculation not working?

I have an 03 CLS, and I came upon this issue a while ago, but it wasn't that big a deal. However, I still would want to know if I can fix it...

So, it seems that recirculation for the HVAC system isn't working. The button works, and it lights up, but it doesn't matter which position it's in, it still lets outside air in. Even when I turn off the HVAC system. Do any of you know what can be causing this? Is there some kind of flap or valve stuck? Can this be fixed easily, by me? I have absolutely no knowledge of automotive air circulation systems...

It is kind of annoying driving behind smoky cars, and not being able to do anything about it... . Or garbage trucks, or skunky places...

Thanks for your help.

Do you think it could be located where the cabin air filter is? I can access that easily. I just want to seal it off now... If I want outside air, I can open the windows. The air around here is so polluted anyway.

Its on the blower:

Number 5, PN 79350-S0K-A01

If you unbolt if from the blower, leave it plugged in and hit the recirc button. See if the lever moves at all. The list price is $67.

if you run the air and hit the recirc button, the amount of air should change depending on what position its in: less air when recirc is off and stronger air flow when recirc is on.

^ Yeah, that's the thing. It doesn't change. And it lets outside air in even when the whole system is off. I think the part civicdrivr pointed out is the culprit, and I'm gonna have a look-see probably this weekend.

Just to clarify, outside air still comes in when the HVAC system is powered off. The recirc needs to be on to stop that. From what I got from your previous posts though, recirc was on and didnt change anything.

Are you talking about PN: 79350-S0K-A01 that Morgan listed?
Not sure where Morgan got that list price from but it's now 233.82 for the part number he listed. If your interested in buying the part for 182.38, then you can buy it from Curry Acura here: http://www.trademotion.com/parts/ind...&siteid=214999
You may also look into buying the part used from a local parts recycler.
