Quarter Panel Window Replacement

Anyone ever replace their rear window on their CLs? After an errant throw playing catch with my daughter, I now have a shattered driver side rear window. Already ordered a replacement window and was going to have someone replace it, but still waiting for responses. First response was $150 so wondering how difficult it is to replace it myself.

Anyone do this or have instructions on how it is done? 2001 CLs. This is the driver's side quarter panel glass.

Thanks!

This window is glued in + couple of holding clips. You are going to need steel string, two holding blocks, knife, some prying tool - like wide flat screwdriver, thick cardboard to protect your paint , mounting sealant $16 @ auto zone. Take inner seal out, separate outside corner so you can see the glue. You need to cut or drill the hole through the sealant and put the string through it. ...put holding blocks on the string and saw it out . You need two people to do it -some in and outside. Remove loose rubber - do not bother about removing old rubber that is firmly sitting on the car - leave it! Put nice amount of sealant on the new window , snap it in. All done. Dries fairly fast . Good to go in 3 hrs or so

Excellent info on installing the window! Exactly what I was looking for. But that just makes me realize that I have other things to do with that 3 hours (probably 4 for me including 1 hour of cussing).

Calling safelite now. Didn't realize they were available so hopefully they will replace it using the window I already bought.

Much appreciate the help! This has always been one of the better car forums and I am going to miss it! Yes, after 164k miles and 11 years, I am selling my 2001 CLS. And don't ask what I bought to replace it...you don't want to know!

Thanks!

Well, I guess I did lead the witness with my comment...

I must first say that after 11 years of blissful driving my cls, I never did get tired of that car. Amazing...no real problems along the way either but after looking at some of the posts here, I better sell her before she turns on me!

I tried to stay with similar letters and bought a ctsv...only way I could upgrade from cls!

It will still be a sad day when I sell my cls and it drives off...luckily I have something to take my mind off of it!
