Well I rarely even go in to vtec but when I do there is a loud tapping sound that will almost over power the sound of the motor. Its right at 5500-6000 rpm's or right before I say "right there!" Can someone tell me what the hell that is? If it was a bent valve I would get a engine code or light right?

And can someone explaine to me what resonance is? (if I even spelled that right)

The car tends to go lean around that point in the powerband, its weird, my AFR was like 13.3-13.0 its it barely does it like that. I plan on getting my car retuned anyway since the tune was lost somehow and my high throtle points are al +5.

Its easier to listen to it with the hood open and the mic pointing at the engine. Is just not as easy to pick up the sound of it when your not there in person.

As for you describing it as tapping it always sounded like sparking to me, anyone else?

 

resonance is a humming/whistling noise, similar to the sound of someone blowing over the opening of a bottle. some people have described is as sounding like a UFO. it definitely gets obnoxious at times; i got a little when i first installed my intake.

I hear what you're talking about. It sounds more like a rattle to me than a ping. Almost like a rattling heat shield or a loose bolt/washer. Did you install your headers? They're XS right? I kind of had the same sound on my XS because I used the crappy factory hardware. I don't know if that's it but it might be worth getting under the car. Just start probing around your exhaust and shake your header pipe and cat around by hand and see if anything rattles.

 

Well it dosnt matter anymore cause my motor is nearly in the cabin to do totaling it today hitting a fucking tree.
