it looks as this is a slow leak since there's not much fresh fluid around. I had this problem with mine and mine leaked quite a bit more. it would leave enough oil to stain the driveway. 2 dealers pointed to the Rear Main Seal and quoted $1500 for the repair. $30 seals and 12 hrs of labor. Smaller shop wanted $750.
I read on here that Lucas sealant and other kinds are not recommended. My mechanic friend told me to use Lucas Oil Stabilizer 25% and 75% oil over time and the leak will stop after a few oil changes. I did just that with Synthetic oil mixed with Lucas and no more leak.
Didn't want to spend $1500 cuz i just spent $900 to tune up the car last week (OEM ignition coils x 6, 6 plugs NGK Laser Platium, Injen air filter, OEM fuel filter, tranny drain & fill 2x with the new DW-1). I have 220k on the car now. what a killer expense.

There was a thread on the TL side about a rear main seal leak. It turned out that a clogged PCV valve was creating too much pressure, causing the leak. However, I think his car was in storage, so it might not apply to you.
I would clean it up with a rag, and see how much/quickly it leaks.

That was a smart move. I don't think they were planning on a new rear main, that would have been so dumb. I made them change it. I guess some shops balance customers thinking they are getting taken advantage against trying to give them a competitive price.

Good info, thanks . . . is auto trans easy to undo to get to main seal? I am pretty mechanically inclined, but trannys intimidate me. Also, the front main seal on a '98 cl 3.0 . . . is it the same seal that is in the oil pump casing? I can't find a diagram to show different, and Chiltons doesn't show a seal in the area that the front crank goes thru the block . . .I NEED AN ADULT< I NEED AN ADULT !!!
