First sign that the AT is stressed??

My 2001 CLs is on it's second tranny which was rebuilt by the factory. At 113K it has about 50K on the rebuild. I have noted that when cold and slowly acclerating at 35 mph I feel a slight shudder sometimes right before the shift to 3rd gear which I understand is the problem gear.

On brisk to fast to wot acceleration there is no problem. Is this the first symptom of a tranny issue or perhaps a minor electronic gremlin emanating from one of the sensor or throttle body within the engine.

I heard the new synthetic tranny fluid is better. I had the old stuff put in about a year ago. Is it better for the tranny to go synthetic?

I would ask Rick Case Acura but since they are thieves and have accused Acurazine members of practicing automotive voodoo I thought it more effective to pu the question out to my colleagues here...

That shudder is usually caused by slight loss of oil pressure between shift from 2 to 3. Shift solenoid A-B mesh screens start to clog with friction plate base material and oil passes trough them with the delay . Simple words your 3rd gear clutch pack is gone.

Synthetic oils are always better but wont fix your tranny. Did not try new oil yet but since I run 05 TL transmission in my CL my oil looks excellent after 30k on it. If your tranny fails ( hope not ) consider getting used TL or Odyssey box instead of rebuild

Thanks for the heads up......I most likely have some time yet so I might as well put it to good use and look at my options. What was your out of pocket on the TL replacement?

Nice work....some of our colleagues here are pretty handy but that takes it to the next level.

I have already started looking. I see even the 3rd Gen TL's have had issues to a much lesser extent though. I thought Ford was the only car company that made crappy transmissions.

lol voodoo? I thought it read that somewhere before on here.
I promise that some of us know our cars better then they do. Do they know that an external trans filter exists for this car?

The new honda DW-1 ATF is synthetic, if your interested in a synthetic ATF, try that.

Here is the accused part from the voodoo catalog used in MDX, TL, CL
It is a secondary filter that filters shared differential/transmission ATF. And it is an Extrenal filter

I had no idea that there was an external filter for the tranny and I can't wait to touch base with the local yokel Acura service advisor on the matter.

Nice work!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was in Sacramento 2 weeks ago. Actually it was El Dorado Hills atop Folsom Lake. Much nicer there than here in South Florida. The weather is much better and Tahoe is an hour and a half away...I bet the Acura dealer you patonize is better than the thieves I deal with at Rick Case Acura....

Meh, they are okay. We have two out here. Only 1 touches my salvaged CL and thats only for recall or warranty work.

You should have said something, we could have gotten a little get together.

The weather has been unseasonably cool recently about 10 degrees below normal. Plus we don;t have that humidity like in florida.
