P7040 VSA CEL /!\ light on
Hi all,
It's an all too common problem with the CL. I have a 2001 CL-S.
Problem started (in sequence of events):
--A couple of months after I had a mechanic replace the transmission fluid.
--Rotated only my right side tires (my right front was bald for some reason, but my left front had the same amount of thread as the two rear tires)
--I accelerated hard a few times to get through traffic.
What happened:
VSA, CEL, /!\ light all came on.
P0740 from OBD-II reader.
Observations:
-VSA and /!\ light only comes on a few minutes after driving over 55mph on fifth gear. I drove the car on D4 over 60mph and the lights did not come on. When I shifted it to D5 the lights came on after a couple of minutes.
-Car shifts fine through all gears
-Clutch locks (observed by drop in rpm at highway speed)
-Ground wire closest to the torque converter clutch solenoid is frayed.
What I HAVE already done:
-Replaced Torque converter clutch solenoid (with OEM part)
-Replaced Ground wire closest to the torque converter clutch solenoid
-Cleaned out EGR ports by scraping and carb cleaner (i did not replace EGR valve)
-put the bald tire back to the right front
-Replaced tranny fluid with OEM tranny fluid
-replaced brake switch
What I have read may be the cause but have NOT tried:
-Knock sensor
-O2 sensor
-Wheel speed sensor
-Transmission speed sensor
-bad motor mounts
-throttle positioning sensor
-get two new front tires so they match
-Bad Torque converter
-and of course replacing the tranny
so heeeeellllPpp meeee!!
