P0420 & p0430

Well my car threw both these codes this weekend out of the blue.
0420: Cat efficiency below threshold
0430: Cat B2 Deteriorated

So is there any way this could be anything other then a bad cat? It is less than a year old.????

it was a 2.5" in/out cat...i believe it was magnaflow, i'll have to check the bill. My mechanic said it might have just been a burp in the exhaust. So last night i gave er down a nice dry stretch of road and it cleared the code! lol....my car is telling me it missed vtech.

You got aftermarket headers or Y-Pipe? When I had my Maxima (I know it's not a Honda/Acura product) I had an aftermarket Y-Pipe that was larger and had I believe a 3" collector, and pretty much all around bigger. It kept throwing P0420 codes and I forgot the other code it was throwing for the oxygen sensor right behind it. Something about the oxygen sensor faulting. I ended up replacing it and totaled it... Then I bought the CL-S.

i have headers and 2.5"catback. i've never had that happen in almost a year with it on. Who knows what the mechanic meant. i'm glad it's gone though. That was the first time the engine light has been on since i've owned the car.

well i finally got around to buying a defouler. I'm still getting the codes now and then. Going to put it on soon.

However, i just had an emissions test and a few of the readings were close to failing. My mechanic suggested new O2 sensors and i might clean out the EGR and clean my air filter. Which brand of O2 sensors are recommended?

You can run a Bosch for the rear O2. Just dont use it for the front.

i did some quick research online and found some really varying prices.

Rockauto: Front $57, Rear $34 (Denso)
Autopartsway.ca: Front $169, Rear $101 (Denso)
Acura of Peoria: Front $160, Rear $117 (Denso)

What's up with these prices?

they seem about right, maybe a little high, but the one is cause of it being a dealer though

but that rockauto one, almost seems to good to be true though, so i would just doable check, and make sure they are not going to charge an arm and a leg for shipping and such (and since you are in canada already, could it still be cheaper to pay for the more expensive one, and not have to pay for duties and such when it arrives )

ya that Rockauto one threw me off. i'm thinking maybe they were universal and that's why they were cheaper? I'm going to check a local store today to see what they would charge. I'm also going to grab new spark plugs and an intake filter.
