New eyes.......

Has anyone ever used the 3M headlight renewal cleaner kit? I know it's pretty much just sanding down, buffing, and re polishing but does it work? Is it effective and for how long? Moreover, does anyone have for sale a pair of '03 CLS headlights or know where I can get a pair for a decent price? OEM Acura is over $600 brand new!!!! Damn stealership! Thanks!

if you know how it works, ie: sanding, polishing and buffing, you'll know that it's actually taking off a layer of plastic.
so it indeed works, however, the plastic yellows and fades from the sun.
you'll need to put a protective layer of sealant on them to keep the harmful UV rays from yellowing and fading the plastic, again.

I agree with above. I have used a few and they all clear them up by the time you are done, but the best one I have used is the sylvania one because it comes with a UV clear coat to apply at the end. It was this one:

Thanks fellas! Much appreciated. I know its only a temporary fix but for how long about? If I had the funds, I would purchase a set of new OEM housing units but quite expensive ATM for myself. Can one of you fellows send me in the direction of housing replacements that are less expensive and not poor quality... I know you get what you pay for but someone might know where to get them for a fair price. Thanks again.

if you put a piece of clear bra/clear sheet over the freshly polished headlights, you'll be able to keep it from yellowing/fading.

or you can use "Blue Magic" UV head light protectant sealant.

with the blue magic, you'll have to apply every time you wash your car(in the grand scheme of things, if you're washing weekly, it aint hard to apply the sealant to headlights)

or you can have a more permanent solution with the clear bra/clear sheet over the head lights, after you've done a polish.

or you can head to ebay.com and pick up a set of new head lights.
even the cheapy ones are DOT approved so, you'll get a good cover, but if it has projectors inside of it(dont know if CL's came equipped with projector bulbs) there's a likely chance that the ebay headlights have less than stellar light output

There are not aftermarket options for 2G CL headlights.

I've got a year and a half on mine with the sylvania kit and they are still acceptable to me. The improvement in appearance and the concentration of light through a newly clear lens was surprisingly good when I first did it. They are starting to yellow again but they still seem to work pretty well. The way I figured it, even if I did it every year, it would take 30 years for replacing the headlights to be the better deal.

Also, there is plenty of the UV protectant stuff left after doing both lenses, so if you wanted to keep it and reapply after the fact, it might make them last even longer. I meant to try this but threw mine out because I was moving. Just another option.
