Hi there,
I disconnected the battery last week to install my aem cai. After I connected the battery back, my rear view mirror dim-function is not working now. Do you guys know why?? The mirror should go dimmer and darker after i press the thing under the mirror. Please help.

When the button is pressed in, does the green LED come on?

Try a search on rear view mirror dimming. Seems to be a fairly common problem that should be covered under warranty?

The mirror won't dim just because you push the button, the mirror has a sensor that measures the light outside and what's hitting the surface of the mirror. That way it will dim when someone comes up behind you at night.

Put your finger over the sensor, it's the hole in the windshield side of the mirror. It will think it's night and should dim a little.

It actually measures the light difference between the sensor on the back side of the mirror, and the front side of the mirror. When the front is a lot brighter than the back, it'll dim. If you cover the back sensor, and shine a light in the front side, it should dim.

Guys,

do a search on this. the original manufacturer of the mirrors will replace them. I have done this, others have done this. It is easy but it is through the manufacturer not through Acura.

I just searched, couldnt find what you are talking exactly. Who's the original manufacturer of the mirror, and number to call? Thanks very much for the help.

I've had it replaced directly by Acura. Once on our '03 because the person installing it had bruised the LCD panel, and it had a thumb print on it, and once on our '01 because it would dim during the daytime. Our dealer was good about both cases.

I did go back and tell them about the '01 case, because it still did it on the replacement. Turns out my wife's parking pass (clips on the back of the mirror) would shield the light sensor on the back, and it would cause fause darkening. I cut a hole in the pass to fix the problem.
