Mysterious broken cable in engine bay

While looking in my engine bay (2001 Acura Cl Type S) for a broken cruise control cable I found this cable that's unattached to a crimp. As you can see, the cable is attached to the metal of the engine bay. It's rusted off and broken from the crimp which is attached to a y-shaped metal piece which connects some sort of plug and some silver cylindrical device, all located on the side of my engine on the left side of the car underneath the air intake.

It looks like some sort of ground cable, but I really have no idea what it's for or how important it is. I'm planning on taking the car in to Acura on Tuesday if I can't find out before hand.

Here are a bunch of pictures:

Pic 1 The broken cable

Pic 2 Another shot, facing the front of the car. You can see the bits of wires left in the crimp after the cable broke.

Pic 3 Another shot, facing down and towards the rear of the car

Pic 4 Just another angle

Pic 5 A shot straight down over the air filter tube that goes into the intake of the engine. You can barely see the rusted metal that the cable attaches to right beneath it.

Pic 6 A shot looking to the front of the car of the metal piece and the broken cable, and what it connects to underneath the intake hose.

Pic 7 Another shot looking down and slightly to the front of the car showing the metal cylinder that's connected to the rusty piece of metal and cable crimp.

Pic 8 A shot looking towards the back of the car of the metal cylinder, showing that it is located behind the automatic transmission fluid dip stick.

If anyone knows what this is for and how important it is, please speak up. I don't know how long I've been driving the car like this but it could have been a while. Could this be related to the P1457 (EVAP Control System Leak Detected (Control Canister System)) CEL code I've had?

That's definitely what it looks like. I'll have to try and take a look to see if there are any other obvious ground cables on the engine. If not, I'll definitely feel the urge to get this fixed on the double. The car works completely fine and normal. Only the CEL for the evap canister leak. I'm concerned about burning something out, though.
