lol, I had this happen twice a few months apart in my old 2001 CL, first time, I got down and dirty taking the plastic off, screwdriver, etc. Second time, I was so pissed, i just sat in the seat, leaned back real hard, I mean REAL hard and pressed the seat back button while doing it, and it got unjammed, never had the problem again.

*disclaimer: if your seat breaks, it's not my fault.

I got it figured out! Here are some more detailed steps to help:
1) Remove 4 bolts holding chair in the car.
2) Remove the 2 screws from the plastic molding where the switches are on the side of the seat
3) Pull back the cloth from the side where the motor is.
4) There is a little window on the side metal frame that is facing the door. In this little window you will see the back portion of the gears, this is where you use the flat heat. You stick it in there, while hitting the switch back and forth position the flat head under one of the teeth and against the metal frame. Going back and forth a few times should unstick the gears.
5) Put it all back together!

-I will post pictures as soon as I can. Thanks for everybody's previous posts. It took me 2 hours, but if I would have known the exact place to stick the screwdriver it would have taken only 25-30 min.

I too have the same issue with my 2003 CL Type-S on the passenger's side. In addition to the above - which was VERY helpful, thank you - I removed the motor (three screws - easy) and that allowed even more access to both the 'back' of the main gear and the front. However, I am unable to see your pictures (new member I guess). I would love to see a schematic of what's IN behind the rivited cover plate.

Another point that arises in my mind is that after lubing the hell out of the gear(s), what then about proper grease? If none's applied then the same issue is likely to arise again, right?

This issue seems to be directly related to corrosion on the main gear - rust! I live in Florida and the humidity must've taken its toll...

When I said "lubing" I meant with WD40... Doesn't that deteriorate the grease?

Also, as of right now, nothing's happeneing and I am afraid that whacking the flat head screw driver too hard might damage or break a tooth on the gear. Any thoughts, anyone?

Thanks in advance!

OK, chaps and chapesses! Topher and LittleFerris14 are da bomb! It worked - with a little time and patience.

If I may, I'd like to offer some tips.

Place lots of rags under and around the bottom left corner of the seat before you go at it with the WD40 - it'll drip onto your carpet and make an unholy smell you'll never remove (nope - it didn't happen to me as I managed to think of it before having at it).

Remove the sill covering (it pops off with care) before starting - it allows better access to the side panel screws.

Be careful when removing the covers from the retaining screws for the side panel: one side has a tang that lies horizontal and the other vertical. You need to prise it out gently ensuring that you've got the side that pops out perpendicular to the side panel and then remove it by pulling sideways.

Have at hand a long Phillips (cross head) screwdriver bit - you'll need it for the rear-most retaining screw.

Move the chair all the way forward - it lifts it up relative to the sill and makes access a little easier.

If you remove the motor (and I don't think you do, actually) then unplug the connectors from the switch assembly on the back of the side panel. It'll make it easier to later check the motor funtion, if that is something you decide to do. I did... No reason but better to be sure before proceeding.

It was impossible, I found, to rotate the gear using just the screwdriver so, leave the WD40 to do its work for a good while (I left it two and half hours). Then (after replacing the motor and switch connectors, if needed) and before using a good amount of leverage force as described by Topher and littleferris14, hit the switch. Go back and forth a coupla three times first then, looking at the direction the gear moves (it will a little bit) when hitting the recline. Then, place the wide bladed, flat headed, long shafted screwdriver in place, press hard, levering in the direction the gear ought to move when the seat back is reclining, hitting the recline button at the same time.

Bob's your uncle - works now just like a bought one!

Thanks again for all your input and saving me a boatload (more) on this Acura.

My driver seat had been exhibiting signs of being "stuck". It would move slower and slower, sometimes not at all. After a couple months, I had to do something. I thought it was the same as this thread and was going to try it until upon closer inspection of the hinge area, 2 pennies had somehow gotten lodged into the area. (Driver seat, hinge area right below seatbelt buckle). It took some creative jostling to get them out. Once they came out, I could see how the pennies were all mangled because they had been caught in the hinge. As they moved deeper into the mechanism, they finally got the seat jammed. Who knows how long they had been there.

So before you take the hinge apart, check to see if there is anything obvious holding it back. You may find a couple pennies!

Remove the plastic cover on the side of the seat. Youll see the gears that move the seat back and forth. You can remove the motor and test it off the seat to verify it still works. I used a flat head screwdriver to get the gears on the seat itself to loosen up, then apply grease.

I had this problem about a year ago. When i tried to recline the seat it would just click in either direction. I used the lever on the side of the seat to push the seat foward. With the seatback foward, I pushed to button for the recline and heard the motor engage. Seems the gears or whatever ( never opened it up) had become off or misaligned somehow. Before pushing the seat back, I pushed the power recline button all the way back. After returning the seat to driving position, it went all the way back and has worked fine ever since.

Power Seat Recliner Broken

I have an 04 TSX and the seat is stuck in the down position and wont come back up. I took it to the dealership today and they stated that Power Seat Reclining Motor may need to be replaced. Any suggestions, experiences, DIY? Please advise.

I had this problem with both recline and raising the back part of the seat up, I fixed the recline part by football tackling the seat-back while holding the recline button ( X-Direction of tackle--> / -Direction button was pushed-->). The seat rising part I pushed the seat up as hard as I could while holding the seat up button (did this while in the back driver side seat, lifting up from the base of the seat).

I don't recommend jumping straight to tackling your seat, but it sure as hell beats blowing $300+ at the dealership...

Just happened to me today.
The seatback dose not recline and when pressing the memory buttons there is just a click.
The recline button does nothing as well.
With my closed fist i beat on the seat back approx where me shoulderbladeas were. This rattles the seat mechanism. It worked fine after doing this twice. If problem persists just hit the seat and the button at the same time or sit in chair and push back hard and hit the recline button back.
If still dosent work then disassemble it.

My seat reclines but will not move forward or back. I was vacuuming under the seat and somehow ripped up the wires in my seat. I spliced them back together but the seat doesn't move anymore. I have tried replacing the fuse but that does nothing.

Any advice? I'd tried looking for solutions for 2 years now and nothing.

Perhaps you altered the resistance on the wires and the moduel is now responding to the signals, or the moduel itself is burnt?
Hard to tell...

Yeah Its getting me bummed since I have no clue what it is. Everything else on the seat works except for moving forward and back. Luckily I'm tall enough to where having the seat back isn't much of an inconvenience. Still would be nice for those rare instance someone sits behind me or when I'm driving a 12 hour drive from Miami to Atlanta and have a ton of stuff in my back seat (It was a terrible drive).

Can someone please send me the procedure to my e-mail??

My seat has been stuck for a while. I've taken the motor out and it does turn, so something is stuck.

Its just the gears that are binding. Use a screwdriver to break the gears free then grease them.
