May not be a problem

Shoveling snow off my driveway Sunday, I started the CL to warm and defrost it. Not too long after I started it, the rpms started to vary (like someone was giving it throttle up to about 2000 then back down). It did seem like the RPMs did not go as high as the car got warmer. No code lights were lit. I feel the car is probably fine, but this seemed odd.

You'll need to replace the idle control valve right below the throttle body. I had the same problem as you did.

Or just a quick clean would help it too. Take it off clean it until it spins freely then put it back in.

Thanks for this input. Will definitely check it out when I get some time. Life has thrown me a curve this week, and I'm having to deal with aging parent issues.

when my car did that, I just removed the ICV and cleaned it up with carb cleaner. Installed it back and 15K later, still no issues

Common problem with the Idle Air Control Valve. I would think about a replacement due to not wanting to break down somewhere out on a highway far from home. Just a thought. Some members have cleaned them and all was good. Some others still have problems after cleaning.

you can clean it, carbon just piles up and causes it to get "stuck" and that results in the looping idle. Cleaning the valve should resolve the issue nicely for most people
