How do I reset the ECU? I just changed all spark plugs

It started with the check engine light blinking, car will shake unless completely stopped. Then the TCS light came on and stayed on. Went to auto zone to get codes read....P0300, 301, 302, 303, 304, 305. I thought all the spark plugs needed to be changed (I'm a girl give me a break ) so I did. But I did not reset the ECU . Was I suppose to? Needless to say, problem not fixed - still doing the same thing. Any other ideas? I drove it today after changing sparkplugs and not resetting ECU, please tell me I didn't screw something else up worse. Thanks for your help. Oh yeah,,,,,,duh! 2001 Acura 3.2 CL 177,000 miles on it, 2nd transmission - 1st covered under the recall.

It sounds like your coil packs are bad, but to reset the ECU you can pull out the clock fuse on the passenger side fuse panel (I think its number 13) or you can disconnect the battery.

Thats alot of miles.

BTW, welcome to the site.

Thanks, I did what you said about the clock fuse, that worked for about ten minutes and then the engine and TCS lights came back on. Car is running alot better, still not perfect though. Thanks, I watched my Dad take a spark plug out to check it and remembered how he did it to change them. What are coils? I thought by coils (in other threads) they meant spark plugs. Are they two different things? Where/how can I get the codes read? I'm obviously trying to save $$$ by doing everything myself. Appreciate the help and the warm welcome, thanks guys. Look forward to any help I can get. I know LOL a lot of miles, car has been perfect though...except I already gone through two front/drivers axl rods. Guess I (IDK) take turns to rough. Thx again

What's the full name of the coils? I changed six things three in front and three in back of the engine, you have two unscrew them and screw new ones in. Are those coils? Can't find online, are they like ignition coils....and they print out from the code reader said "cylinder misfire condition, ignition system fault. Plugged or faulty fuel injector: vacuum leak:"

the coils sit right on top of the spark plugs, they are the things that you had to disconnect the wiring from before you could change the plugs
BTY: it might not be the coil packs if all those codes basically showed up at once
also what brand of sparks plugs did you use cause only NGK and Denso plugs really work in our cars

x a million for NGKs. Thats all I use.

How long has this been happening?

The coils can be called ingnition coils or coil packs. They are pricey, so rule out all other possibilities first.

Almost forgot, post some pics of your CL when you get a chance!

Any idea what I can try next? Now the exhaust or something is really loud. Can I buy one coil and try it in each one until I find out which one (if any) is bad? Do I need to reset the ECU everytime I change one?

when was the last time the timing belt was changed it might have some stretch in it, and could protentaly throw all those codes
and yes you can buy one coil but it proably won't fix it and yes you do need to turn the check engine light off every time

YAYYYYYYYYYYYY it was one bad coil.....fixed that problem after fuse #13 reset (thank you) the ECM. Nowwwwww it sounds like the exhaust or muffler is louddddd. Could driving with a bad coil for a few days have caused something else to break that is causing this loud noise? Anyone familiar with EGR? Could this be the source of this new noise? I also added a fuel cleaner. Runs like new except for the noise. Thanks for all of your help everyone.

maybe a exhaust leak? the bad coil shouldnt really have anything to do with the exhaust system, unless its the engine thats loud.

A bad coil would not cause an exhaust leak. Noise could be a spark plug that didn't get tightened down all the way.

Ok I don't think it's the exhaust but it has that similar sound. I think it's the engine. Kinda sounds like a race car now; but I don't like it. A spark plug not being tightened all the way would make sense - I'm trying that tonight. Hmmm I guess I will just have to check each one....? Engine is not ticking. Sounds almost like a vacuum being clogged; but I really think it's the engine - if I get out of the car I hear it towards the front of the car not the back. I'll let you know what happens after I check each spark plug, pain in the azzzzz. Thx again. Wish me luck! Has anyone had any experience with a clogged EGR? Look at this link top of page 2.... http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/th...01_misfire.pdf

These EGRs get clogged rather easily. If you do check the spark plugs, dont tighten them until they cant go anymore. You may strip the threads (not a fun fix either). Just make it snug.
