help, emergency brake sticking

Well for the past few days my emergency brake has been sticking. I don't know if the 10 degree weather here has anything to do with it, but it has only done it once a few months ago up until recently. Last night it was so bad that the rears stayed locked up after i depressed the pedal and preceded to drag until it decided it was going to un-stuck itself. Other times it will only stick partially and I'll drive it for a mintute as it violenty shakes, then again unstucks itself after some pedal work. I searched, thinking this would be a commmon problem, but didn't find much of anything. Has anyone has this problem and whats the solution? Is it something as simple as an adjustment? Trying to avoid the stealership here. Thanks guys

What about possible moisture in the brake fluid? Then freezing in the calipers?..Just a thought...

Brakes sticking / Brake light

I've been having a similar problem, which I attributed to the Wisconsin cold weather. For the past few weeks (especially when it's been cold) my brake light would go on for a little while after I take off from a stop sign / traffic light. It always would go off after a while, so I didn't think too much of it. Then this morning driving into work, on snow-covered and icy roads, it seemed like the back wheels were just dragging. Not sure what to make of this development, but it made driving to work very challenging in the snow.

My CL's a '02, type S, with about 108,000 miles. Still the original brakes. Maybe I just need new brakes? Any suggestions?

yea...I'm having the brake light issue here in Pennsylvania with cold temps. The light comes on and stays on, it goes off sometimes when I apply the brakes. My brakes dont seem to lock up though. With locking brakes I think I would go to a garage and have the brake fluid changed and system bled. Any garage can do it.

I plan to take my car into a local place today - like a Tires Plus, etc. (rather than the dealership, since they would probably gouge me). Any ideas on whether I am due for new brakes, given the 108,000+ miles on my CL-S? A lot of these were highway miles, so the total is somewhat misleading. My daily travel is city driving, so I guess I do use my brakes plenty.

Any ideas what a dealer might charge me for new breaks on this car? It's a 2002 CL-S.

Thanks

Go aftermarket. All your options are layout out in the FAQ.
100K miles is a ton for stock brakes. I'm sure they are due.
Changing your brake fluid is a must as well.

I got my brakes done last night at Tires Plus - cost me about $200. I was pleasantly surprised by how little that was, but I had found a coupon for $90 per axle there, and they didn't need to replace the rotors. The brakes were in fact shot, and they thought my back calipers were hanging up because of the cold and low fluid level brought on by used up brake pads. Car seems better to me now, and no more brake light on (so far).

They did not, nor did they suggest to, change the brake fluid. Maybe something to go back and have them do yet?

Thanks

The brake fluid is part of the maintenance. It's like a 60K mile thing, something like that.
That's surprising they didn't suggest it. Most chain stores do even if it's not needed to make $.
I would just be weary of cheap brake pads. They turned your rotors, but even doing that may cause you problems if the rotors were thin to begin with.
