Help, can't shift into gear

Hey guys,

I'm not too sure what's wrong with my cls6spd but i can't shift into gear.

I just got my clutched replace 2 months ago b/c it was slipping.
last week i was driving my car, i shifted into 2nd gear engaged the clutch.
it fully engaged but then all of a sudden a loud noise came from my engine bay and it sounded like something was grinding.
i pressed the clutch and took it out of second but when i tried to throw it back into 1st it wouldn't go back in.
So as of now, i can start the car but i can't put it into gear.
and when i press the clutch down, it sounds like it's grinding when it's fully pressed to the floor.

but some symptoms i noticed was earlier the week it was sort of hard to get out of gear even with the clutch fully pressed.
so could this be my clutch slave cylinder?

I checked my clutch fluid levels and it seems fine.
i went under the car and asked my friend to press the clutch to see if the clutch engages and it seems like it does.

any help would be appreciated.
thanks.

iggie

sounds like a faulty throw out bearing and pressure plate or fork

Looks like your transmission shop might not bleed clutch hydraulics well, causing your clutch to half disangage - thats why you had a problem taking it out of the gear -overheat and fail. Or there was some reassembly mistake

Your first gear syncro could also be out.

so here is an update.
so i took it to a shop.
they dropped my tranny and said my pilot bearing and my pressure plate needs to be replaced...
but the mechanic said i might have to replace my flywheel also b/c he said there is too much free play on the fly wheel.
i know the cl-s has a dual mass flywheel so how much free play is ok?
b/c most shops i take it too never worked on a dual mass flywheel before so all of them are like is this normal? and im like...your the mechanic why are you asking me. haha
the flywheel rotates back and forth about half an inch.
but should the flywheel also wobble back and forth(not rotating if that makes sense)
thanks again guys for the help

If a mechanic asks u if it should be like that. Ur in for more shit going bad. Obviously thr shop doesn't know how to work on these cars. Should have taken it to the dealer or a honda/acura shop.

I thought maybe u all were talkin about the automatic transmission when I first read the thread. There was two times where I was unable to take it out of park on my auto. My friend ended up coupling something from under neath my brakes and it was able to switch gears. Then it happened again like three weeks later. The white connector was disconnected like 1 mm. It snapped together and I was able to switch gears. Still wondering y it even got loose.

Hey guys,

Here is an update.
So it cost me another 700 to fix so it wasn't that bad.
They just ended up putting in a new pressure plate and pilot bearing.
Even without a new flywheel it feel alot better than before.
And i think the squeaking noise was coming from a loose pilot bearing b/c the noise is gone and my car sounds normal.

But StreetKA, you might want to bleed your clutch and see if that helps.
but labor was 390 to drop the tranny and the other 310 was just for parts (pressure plate and pilot bearing)

but thanks again for the help guys

If anybody will be replacing clutch in Cl-s and your mechanic tells you to resurface or not to replace dual mass fly wheel .... change your mechanic. DMF is basically two fly wheels in one combined. Power transfer goes thru torsion springs that usually with clutch going bad go overheated and lose its properties and eventually crack. DMF a very nice design it quiets rattles from gear case , smoothens shifting and engage/disengage ... the only disadvantage - kinda pricey. German cars clutch kits are sold ONLY with DMF - for some reason ofcourse

yea my mechanic wanted me to change out the fly wheel but he couldn't find the flywheel from his source so he just put it back on. but so far everything is fine so i can't complain but i will probably change out the fly wheel on my next clutch job for sure.
but yea it's sort of hard to resurface DMF so make sure he did it right.
