Fuel Eveywhere at Gas Station

So my car has been stinking up the garage lately smelling like gas but not leaking.
I go to the gas pump today. pay $55. Gas light was on. Hits about 51 and starts spraying out of my tank where the nozzle is. By the time I stop it it's over 53. So I spilled half a gallon of gas. Why the heck would this be happening? I'm confused and iratated.
Any clue guys ?

I've had it happen with a few cars. Its the pump. Hope you notified the attendant.
For your gas smell, the vapor canister is under the drivers side door area. A line or the canister could need replacing.

something similar happened to me last week. I was filling up and i could hear it was getting full but it didn't click stop like it should and i spilled a bit of gas. It's never happened before though, and it doesn't smell like gas anymore.

@Fuzzy- I did let him know, he works there almost everytime I get gas too cause I go after work frquently. He let the gas just dry up on the floor, not sure if it's been replaced.
As for the line and canister, where would I go about looking into that ? Like a new canister. Is it visible if I were to slide under the side of my car ?

@gnuts- Its odd, and it sucks huh ?

@Pnyklr-711 is watered down gas in the first place lol .

Yes it is. I think someone had pics of it on this site somewhere. You can try a search here & on the TL side & see what you can find.
