Does the side motor mount really not matter?

I've had my CLS6 for a few months now. When I took it to an independent Honda mechanic for pre purchase inspection, he pointed out the broken side engine mount, but said that it did completely nothing and I was better off saving my money than replacing it.

I later took it to another independent Honda mechanic for regular oil change and they told me the same thing.

However, I just took it to the Acura dealer (huge no no I know, but they had an insane oil change special). They gave me my car back and noted the side engine mount, and also said that my front engine mount was going weak. Neither of the independent mechanics said anything about the front mount and said the side was totally fine to leave as is. On the other hand, the Acura dealer said it was a huge problem and I need to fix it ASAP.

I'm taking the dealer's advice with a grain of salt because A) they're a dealership, B)They also said my pollen filter needs replacing - I literally replaced it myself a month ago and I highly doubt they pulled the glove box to check the cabin air filter, C) They said that my brake fluid was contaminated, but I had it replaced just a couple months ago and D) they forgot to clear the maintenance minder, my car threw a CEL the moment I pulled out of the lot

Just wanted to get your opinions on this.

It doesn't do completely nothing.... It does matter. As it does limit engine movement & with it broken it will stress the front & rear mounts. So yeah I'd replace it. The good news is it's an easy DIY. There should be posts in the FAQ or on the TL side on how to change it.
The front mount may well be on it's way out. This car is hard on engine mounts.

I also have a 03 CL-s. How would I be able to tell if a mount was going bad? All I know is if the motor or inside the car is vibrating what can I look for?

Have someone rev the car in N in quick bursts while you look at the engine from outside. You will see the engine move. Sometimes you will hear it clank as well.

CEL, or MIL? MIL you can reset yourself -- read owner's manual.
CEL is bad, mkay...?

Awesome, thanks guys! Just swapped out the mount (turns out my front was broken as well), and it's a world of difference. Car feels so much smoother and quieter.

Be on alert for the rear now. I thought I'd get away with a front and side change, only for the rear to give up about a month later.

Yup! It's insane how much of a different the new mounts made, my car seems like it got 5 years newer

I thought of going aftermarket but decided to go OE in the end.

I had my pass side mount replaced when I did timing belt. Car seemed much more solid and like it pulled harder under WOT than before.
