Similar to member eneffex, I wet sanded starting from 800 up to 200 then polished it. Made a huge difference! If the oxidation is bad then definitely start with a lower grade (less sand per square inch) and work your way up!

Hope this helps!

Andrew

Im sure its a simple typo, but sand paper gets coarser the lower the number.

So wet sand with 800, then 1200, 1500, 2000, followed by Meguiars Plastx. Seal/Wax them every three months or so to protect them.

Right, I just listed the grits I used, I figured common sense would be that you start with the lowest.....but I guess common sense isn't so common these days.

its also worth noting these grits are somewhat arbitrary depending on the condition of your headlight, obviously, topic start with lower grits for more pitting and yellowing...use discretion

may need to replace it. I tried the process. Was great for about 4 months then hazed again. FL sun & weather isn't kind.

We're on the internet, common sense is not a given.

I do custom painting of motorcycles and so I always have plenty of sand paper around here in various grits. I have other finishing materials as well of course and so when it came time to clean up my headlights I just used what was at hand.

After all the miles (224k) my light covers were scratched and had the usual stone chips, so I started sanding with 400p grit (with block) to take out the flaws, then I went immediately to 1000p grit to to take out the sanding scratches and then hit them with 1500p for my last sanding. Then I put a medium pad on my buffer (Makita 9227C) and using 3M Perfect-It II made them like new in about a minute apiece.

I think you should start a thread in Car Talk showing off your paint skills
