Car idling problem and malfunction light
Car idling problem and malfunction light
Hello everyone... sitting in my car in a parking light now hoping for some help...
Today I swapped out my battery for my optima battery and while I was under the hood I cleaned the cone air filter the previous owner decided to just attach to the intake. I also opened the top cover of the engine to look into the intake because my mechanic had found a large amount of carbon buildup a few days ago and cleaned it... A picture of the inside of the intake follows, as I noticed the rightmost "chamber" still black:

Now my problem... Just took the car out and it started to isle up and down between about 750 and 1500... Now it pretty much idles consistently at 1500 and eventually I hear a slight thumping, like something opening and closing under the hood. A friend said he thought it was the iac valvle but IM wondering if it could be something needing to be cleaned again?
Thanks in advance.
Oh, the orange "malfunction" light (that looks like a transmission) is also on.

Update... Some additional throttle body cleaning, as well as the idle control valve, and I seem to have gotten the idle back under control! The light is still on, but I just seafoamed my car and am reseting the ECU. Car is definitely running better now than when I picked it up.
Solved.
idle problem partly due to a the smallest vacuum line to the back of the intake not seated correctly...
check engine light came from a small piece of carbon I'm sure.... After I floored it to pass someone it cleared itself
