ball joint question (need advice)

ball joint question (need advice)

Guys can someone help me out here . I just checked the suspension and found out that the left , front balljoits is torn (Rubber ) . I whant to place the order online but confused ..it is the lower one or upper. cant find the picture anywere ...can someone tell me how to find out..

it's usually the lower joints that take the most abuse and you can tell which one is which as the lower one is at the bottom of the spindle

And you don't need to buy the entire knuckle assy either. The ball joint is available separately now. Info in the following TSB. It will save you a lot of money, both labor and parts.

But you will need to take off the entire knuckle and have the lower ball joint pressed in. This isn't a job that can be done without a machine shop.

Well atleast I wasn't able to.

The labor will certainly be more since you have to remove the old and press the new ball joint in, but overall it should be cheaper. As mentioned, you'd have to find someone that can do that work. Most local shops won't bother.

If you have a Napa store with a machine shop attached to it, they did mine for $15. It was some old gruff guy, I brought in the knuckle and he went to town, I tossed him a $20 and he was good to go.
