Ball Joint

Grease is all over passanger side wheels. The balljoint ruber seal that has grease in it is punctured. I know i am concerned. How big is a problem is this? Should i be verry worried? What does this do to my ball joint?

your ball joint will eventually dry out causing creaking and premature wear of the ball joint. eventually, it WILL fail. the amount of time is relative however. i drove around with NO boot whatsoever for about 20k miles, no problems, but it was always in the back of my head. i replaced it with the ingalls upper control arm.

if you jack up the car, grab the wheel from 12:00 and 6:00, then try to wiggle it forward and backward, does it have play?

What does it mean if there is play on the wheel when the car is jacked up...can that be tie rods too?
