alternator

Any body have any advice on alternator fixes?
I think my aftermarket stereo in my -01 CL Killed the alternator. The alternator looks tight against one of the AC hoses and I don't want to mess with my A/C. Any bright ideas?

Not quite sure of your question. Are you looking to replace it? Have you had it tested to be sure it's bad? What symptoms are you experiencing?

Actually ... I took the alternator out today. I was sure it was the alternator because I just bought a brand new battery. I checked the main fuse under the hood (120 amp) and a 15 or 20 amp fuse that I believe is the charging system fuse but I am not sure that it is the correct fuse that I am looking for. The charging system fuse is suposed to be at # 6 somewhere but the manual doesn't clearly Identify where the charging fuse is.
Symptoms: The battery is not being charged. Dies quickly. No charging system warning light.
Maybe theres a short or opening somewhere?
Where's the charging system fuse?

Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks

Yes. I wanted to replace the alternator. The car will start and run with a jump start, but it just wont charge.
I looked under the hood in the main fuse box on the left hand side close to the fire wall and on each side of the car near the door hinges.
nothing is clearly marked as the charging system fuse. The one under the hood I believe is the charging system fuse, says ACG S.

That was what I was gonna say. Have you installed any audio or electronic gear in your car. Please don't laugh, but I've heard of people wiring electronics directly to the battery so even when the car is off, it's pulling power.

I do have a couple of amps in my car that I installed 2 years ago. They are powered through a circuit breaker and turned on by the stock amplifier remote wire. Any other equipment (dvd player and tv tuner) is powered the same way and turned on by an accesory power wire only.
I thought it was time for new alternator because of the load the amps put on it but that alternator is still good (per a Kragen auto parts computerized Alternator & battery tester. looks sort of like a mini dyno or something).
I will dive into the wiring tonight when I get home. Hopefully, its nothing to serious (and probably not).
