Exclamation All Warning Indicators On - Need Help

Hello,

New to the forum. I purchased a used 2003 CL-S in November, and today is the first time that all of the warning indicator lights have been on at once. On my way home from purchasing the car, it stalled after filling it up at the gas station. I gave it a minute or two and it turned right over. Several times since owning the car, it has had trouble starting up after running into a store and coming right back out. Other times it will start, and then slowly stall out. This has happened maybe 5 times.

The 'SRS' light first came on just before getting the car inspected. I found that the previous owner had left a little U-shaped wire, which I used to reset it a few times, and it always comes back on after 2 or 3 days. I'm going to assume this is due to a faulty passenger side sensor, as that seems to be the most common issue. The 'Maintenance Required' light came on a little later, after previously doing the 10 second flash when starting. I know this is due to needing an oil change, and will take care of this myself.

Recently the 'Check Engine' light came on. The code was P1457 - Evap Emission Control System Leak Detected (Control Canister System). I did some research on the forum and put the problem off temporairly.

Today while driving, the 'VSA' and 'Exclamation Point' light came on. I didn't notice any drop in power, but I usually drive the car under 3,000rpm anyways. I went home and shut the car off. After starting it back up a few minutes later, these two lights were off, but keep coming back on after a few minutes of driving. I decided to check the codes again today and received the same P1457, along with a new code, P1491 - EGR Valve Lift Insufficient Detected.

As a note when the car is idling, I notice that the temperature gauge rises after a few minutes, and goes up to maybe 3/5 on the temperature gauge. When driving, it cools right back down to around 2/5.

Where do I start?!

I wouldn't worry about the SRS light; mine, along with several other members on here, have been on for years ...

The stalling could be from failing ignition coils....how old is your battery?

As far as I know, the EGR valve wouldn't cause the VSA lights to come on, have you checked the fuses under the hood and under the driver's side dash?

The delay in maintaining the engine temperature sounds like a thermostat issue or one of the radiator fans isn't turning on at the appropriate temperature....

SRS light is nothing.
Check the port from the mani to the egr for clogging.
Same with the egr itself.
You will only need a new egr gasket to attempt the cleaning of the port and egr.
Then I'm sure their's a way to check the resistince of the sensor on the egr.
Just never had to do that yet.
Really unsure about the vsa and ! combo as I have a clp not a cls but, some googling should point you in the right direction.

Thanks, I'll start with this and work my way down the list.
  • Check the date on the battery (not sure when the previous owner last changed it)
  • Check the fuses (underhood/dash)
  • Order EGR gasket (is there a part number for this?)
  • Check/clean EGR and EGR port
  • Check EGR sensor resistance
