3rd gear grinding

I drive a 03 CL Type-s 6 speed manual.
When I try to shift into 3rd from any gear, there is a grinding noise and the stick vibrates violently. This only happens with the 3rd gear and all other gears are fine. Is this problem fixable or will I have to replace the whole transmission.

try topping up/changing your transmission fluid?

worn/damaged 3rd gear and syncro

the 2 gears that fail most of the times are 2nd and 3rd gear (mostly because of hard shifting)

warrantied for 5 years/60K miles

What? 4 year/50K miles & is likely past warranty anyway.

so this is definitely an unfixable problem w/out getting a new tranny? it does the same thing on my 98 5mt, but only when i redline it. i know its not my fault because i have tried redlining, clutching, waiting a second, then shifting and it still does it. the car has never had a new clutch. could that be it?

you don't need a new tranny, only replace faulty gears with syncros and you'll be fine.
