You gotta do it from the inside of the car I believe.
Iirc you remove the rear seats then comes out the speaker cover by the window. Then u can access the back of the light housing.
Have not been around there for 2 years but I I'm pretty sure that's how u gotta do it.
Definitely a long as job for a bitch ass bulb lol

I replaced one yesterday in my 2003 CL-S with navi.
Here's how to replace your 2nd gen CL high mount brake lamp.
Access the single lamp from the trunk. With the trunk lid open, notice that the high mount brake light housing in the interior is located just over the rear of the trunk.
In the trunk, look underneath for the black cable leading to the single light grey colored lamp housing. Grasp the connector and housing combination and twist the housing 1/4 turn and pull it out. Twisting the housing may require a slight jerk to free the housing if it has been in place for a long time (13 years for mine). There is no need to remove the cable connector, and in fact you use the connector as the handle to twist the housing so keep it intact.
Since the lamp is located on the near side of the navigation unit, the navi unit does not get in the way at all. If you have the lamp in your hand, it takes maybe 2 minutes to change.
Other posts I have seen mention 2 lamps for the TL and the need to remove the back seat. Not so for the CL which is far simpler to replace.
