01 CL-S Transmssion Swap

Ok so it finally happened. The damn thing went. It only goes into reverse and when you start it there is this awful whining coming from the engine bay. So, this being said, does anyone know the best place to get a transmission for this car? Will an accord transmission be compatible? Thanks!

Wait, if it only goes in reverse, is that a mechanical issue, or could it be an electrical? I'd get it checked out, just to be sure.... assuming you haven't already.

probably first gear or something (it might just be a solenoid though), because normally you start out in first and if you get it going it may seem like every gear is out (and before you assume something, all the foward gears share the same solenoinds, it's just a matter of what combo of the solenoids is on or off which determines which gear it is in)

so before anything OP, check the fluid, does it look somewhat new, and NOT smell burned... (and also the correct level too/full enough)

Had it flushed about a month and a half ago.

sometimes that is not the best cause it can disturb shit, first of all by who (independent shop and what fluid (some fluid brands may help cover a shop for a tranny)

but what it almost sounds like to me though of what happened, is that the flush disturb shit, which then plugged the filter screen, which is then making the pump starve for fluid, which is causeing that whining noise you here, but also you are now not getting enough pressure from the pump to engage first gear, so no forwards (i bet if you lifted the front off and put it in drive , it would spin the wheels, but it does not have enough force to move the car itself)

so the biggest i would say is doable check that tranny fluid level first (they may have left it low accidentally; causing basically the same symptoms as a plugged filter (which is non-serviceable on our tranny)

next then i would do is try draining the fluid itself, then refilling to the specified level, to try and get that filter to back flush the shit out

basically if neither work, you need a new/rebuilt tranny (and have them put in a Honda/Acura rebuilt tranny from the dealer, they got 3 year warranties (you may just have to pay labor if you have any issues within that time frame though, unless the dealer does it, but is not required to though; an independent shop can put it in for you if wanted, while still maintaining the 3 year warranty on the tranny itself)

btw: why was the fluid flushed?; routine maintence or because you where having an issue with it?

i would take it back to the same shop, and try and work something out (and see if their fluid provider has some type of warranty on transmissions when they are flushed with their fluid)

also do you know what fluid they used?

and remember be nice (you can be firm though); cause if you are an asshole, i would just go tell you to go F@ck Off)

It was my local Honda dealership. Not sure exactly what fluid they used.

more then likely ATF-Z1 (same fluid as Acura's), and as far as their policy on "screwing" up a transmission, idk

maybe see if they be willing to at least pro-rate the work and transmission (shit i can't think of the term), so you maybe just pay the labor, and they buy the tranny; it all depends on your negoitating skills (and remember the squeaky wheel gets the greasing)

btw the wifes Subaru is getting a new clutch Monday all covered under warranty (brakes and rear shocks too hopefully)(and it has already had a new motor put in too , all free under warrenty, basically cause i treat them right, and slip them a little extra [it was after the motor had been covered and we had gotten the car back though, but as you see the amount of work that is being done under warrenty, paying a little something extra is nothing])
and just an fyi, that motor if we had to pay for it would have been like $7 or $8K

but it also helps that i buy a shit load of parts from them though, but the point is treat them right, and hopefully they will do the same, or at least help you out some...
