Tuesday's 5.4 magnitude quake is less than the last big shake in the direct vicinity. In 1987, the magnitude 5.9 Whittier Narrows quake heavily damaged older buildings and houses in communities east of Los Angeles.

In Florida, or on the east coast for that matter you can see a hurricane at least a week prior. With that you can evacuate pretty much anything you want. How much warning did you get with that last shake?
