night pic
How to.
(for the noobs)
You need:
-good camera: one capable of taking long exposures.
-support: a good tripod, or bean/sand bags.
-subject: car or any stationary object.
-light meter: built into camera or hand held.
for this shot.
I stayed close and used a wide(28mm) lens setting to capture the trees and sky. otherwise, if you only see the car, it would look like a normal daylight picture. Also, if you stayed farther away and used a longer lens, you would get less distortion, but its harder to hold a longer lens steady. the shadow is so harsh cause it was right under a damn street lamp. soft light works better. make sure its late at night. headlights from other cars will sometimes ruin you pic. sometimes it may look cool.
settings.
I used the lowest ISO(sensitivity) possible to obtain the highest quality. you will get less noise. if you are on a tripod, it doesn't matter if its 10 seconds or 30. also, you can expiriment with bulb.
capture.
once you've framed your shot and you are ready to take your picture, you need a way to release the shutter without shaking the camera with your big fingers. remote controls, wireless or wired work great. also, if you got a self timer, you can push the button and the camera will usually stop shaking by the time the shutter releases. high end SLR cameras will have a mirror lock up function to lessen camera vibration caused by the mirror flapping up and down. use it if you have it.
experiment!
for this shot, to get the headlight color without burning everything out, I left my lights on, locked my car with my remote, and then waited for them to go off automatically. once off, I took my shot and waited untill the last few second of the exposure to unlock my car causing the lights to come on right before the shutter closed.
try popping a light flash, or exposing certain areas by "painting" them with a flashlight. if you got a digital camera, its free. just erase the pic and try again!
show off your night pics!(typeSdragoon&civic4982)
:P
BTW, this is taken right in front of my house. its a townhouse. behind my car is the pool. this is where I park my car every night. I thought it looked cool there and wanted to take a random shot. I didn't really plan this, my car is dirty and has those beat up wheels, not to mention the front plate
i'm gonna take some real pics after I fix my SSRs!!!

wow... I need to go redo mine now... maybe once I take out all my dings today and wash this monster I'll attempt this. However, my shtty camera won't take a 15 second lens opening. I'm not even sure how I can change it (Exposure).
I suppose now I have to go buy myself a new digital camera. I did however notice that there's still quite a bit of graininess. in some spaces. that must just be something you have to deal with on any picture that is so large.

What happened? when did you get rid of your car?!?! nice pics BTW! cant do that with a CCD camera!
we shoot a city lights wedding here on the harbor. its kinda tough cause they always move. so we have to focus, turn off the lights, shoot. the flash burns in the couple, and then we hold th e lens open for about 5-10 second to burn in the lights of waikiki. as long as the people are in complete darkness, they wont show.
i'll go fix my account. check back here later
