Cool New Additions to the CL

over the weekend, my friend and i added front and rear infinity kappa speakers, blacked out the chrome trim around the window area, and added '03 door handles. Also brought the car to the shop to have llumar film applied to the windows. 20% in the front and 15% in the rear. thanks for your help man! ENJOY!

That does look cleaner. Post up a wide angle shot so we can get the full effect. Looks like a rolling oil slick. Keep up the good work.

the kappas are much more louder and clear compared to the bose. it doesn't have the distorted sound when you keeping turning the volume up. it just gets louder. treble at midway is already good enough, any higher is like nails on a chalkboard piercing your ear. bass is better, more tighter. overall, i am happy with them and yes, i'll get that wide angle shot up

Looks real sick, man!

How hard was it to do the trim and exactly what did you use. I might try it too. DIY Write up, please!

umm, i don't think they make molding tape in ssm. if you were to do that, you would probably have to sand away the chrome and then paint it, which you could do if you took off the trim.

applying the tape was easy, the hard part is cutting. i used a razor blade to cut where the chrome and rubber meet and it's hard to cut in a straight line even with creasing. i'll see if i can write up a DIY for this.

Did you hook the factory tweeters back up? If so thats probably why your treble is soo loud. You really should have put a new component set in the front

Looks good though

What are the model numbers for these speakers? Does their impedance match the stock impedance for each set of speakers? I only ask because Crutchfield doesn't list any speakers for the '03 CLS.

It looks, really sharp, man. So it's "molding tape"? I'm thinking about going and picking some of this up today.

I think 3M makes it. Should be pretty plentiful at your local hardware store.

I looked 3 different places today and didn't find anything but the same. What I need is a fat roll of pinstriping. That'll do it! Taking it of will prove to be a bitch though.

Question

You added front and rear infinity kappa speakers...

How do they sound? are they running off the stock deck and amp?

i tried doing this once with electical tape, is that the same as molding tape? it was really hard to lay down the tape straight and get it around the curves, any tips?

electrical tape doesn't bond the same as molding tape does. i'm gonna redo my doors because some of the chrome still shows due to uneven cutting. i'll try to write a DIY sometime this week and post it up.

You'll probably have the same problem as your grille but if you're going to do replace them anyway, it might be worth it to give it a shot.

Black out the headlights, taillights, and get black rims. It would be complete stealth. It would like one of those spooky cars in the movies where the car is alive and you can't see a driver. Nice job!
