CL SpeedsteR's Build
I had a chance to shoot a good friend of mine (CL SpeedsteR’s) nighthawk black pearl CL. Enjoy.

Rawr.
I've since picked up a set of 18's; should have the car back tomorrow or Sat.
You must be pretty slammed to wreck your oil pan
Either way, I'm definitely a fan of your setup; fitment looks awesome!

Thanks, duly noted, for that guy is a legend around here.
thanks!
-camber, avoiding potholes/dips, attention, tire wear = I know what you mean! haha.
TURBO?!??! that'd be awesome! I'm far too slammed for any type of speed, I forgot what VTEC feels like lol
what UCA are you running? I cannot for the life of me get a set that doesn't squeak or creak, running Ingalls now.
before cracked oil pan
FAIL!
solution (skidplate)
new height:
I'm running new 18's also, same fitment, but rear lips are tucking & front is lower also,
here's a teaser shot
20's looked great, but that's about it lol. They weighed entirely waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much. I actually never really boosted when they were on there; too busy trying to avoid pot holes & dips . Going to miss the attention the cambered wheels drew though; just not a fan of the camber wear... fresh set of tires lasted +/- 3 to 4 months with very little road time at -9.6 camber.

I im on my 2nd oil pan, which already has a hairline crack in it but jb weld is holding up till i get around to fixing it, prob gonna do a custom shallow pan so i feel your pain.
anyhow just a heads up, that skid plate isnt going to protect your pan from cracking. that massive damage didnt come from slowing scraping over a speed bump or going up driveway. that plate will help from nicks and scrapes from such, but if your traveling at speed and you drive over something that causes your car to bottom out, that oil pan is gonna take the hit, literally.
really nice CL though!

I talked to Ray over at Moroso, and they were going to do a custom pan for me also, but since they never done a J32 before, they said they would need the entire block to custom fab one up.
anyway, I paid good money for this 1/8" thick stainless steel skidplate! & the shop that did it guaranteed it to protect my oil pan, said nothing would get through it, but i see what you're saying, if i hit something real hard, then its a goner * crosses fingers**
let me know please when and if you get your shallow pan! we need a prototype/innovator CL guy around here for us slammed guys!
thanks DL!

Your car is AMAZING! I love your wheel set up. I'd ditch my 20's in a heartbeat to get that stance. I am literally on wits end with my car and was about to sell it. But after seeing your car which ive probably came to this thread about 4 times since yesterday just gives me the ideas i need to want to keep mine and just do the things needed to have such a unique looking car.! Are there a lot of wheel brands that have 18x10.5 sizes? and how low are you on your coilovers? any rubbing issues? I'm aware that they are stiffer than springs though. but just curious. Thanks

not only does it break necks, but it inspires others to modify beyond the normal parameters. i appreciate your comments, thoughts and questions.
i too thought about selling, but its so rare to see a stanced 2g cl so i kept it. i read ur post on wheels and facelift and boy do i know what it means when you say "its all trial and error". i mustve taken these wheels on and off literally around 40 times to get it right, the pain in my fingers and knuckles from twisting the coils is another story, not to mention the bruises on my arms from those dam spanner wrenches slipping!
a dremel is your best friend for projects like this
hope you keep your car because its all worth it when youre driving and people break necks so i hope answering your questions will motivate you to put in work the way i did. i chose to aggressively stance the CL because only few have done it, theres a few stanced aggressive TL's , but the CL is rare.
theres quite a few wheels out there that come in 18x10.5, this is the allstar sp10 concave:
this is the varrstoen es8
the ones on my car in this post are the xxr 526
these are all in the $1k range, xxr, varrstoen, and all-star a lot of the vip guys would disagree with these brands, but I'm on my 3rd set of xxr's and have had zero issues with them.
you can see how low i am on these coils in the pics, id say about 4" in the front maybe 5" in the rear
i had serious rubbing issues at 1st and still do, but its gotten a lot better. i hope to have zero rubbing once my car gets out of the body shop as they are modifying my bumper tabs and fenders. my quarter panels took a serious beating after having the pulled/extremely flared. my fronts only rub on the bumper tabs when making hard turns and u turns.
running negative camber (in the front), stretched tires, fender rolling and serious flaring are all needed to pull off this stance. all of my camber in the rear is natural. honestly, a lot of people will tell you theres no way you can go this aggressive, but you can, in fact I'm thinking of going even more aggressive as soon as the body work on my car gets done
and yes the springs are way stiff, 18k front 16k rear
id love to your ride slammed with a lip kit, and sitting on those all star wheels, I'm seriously considering those right now, the concave look is sick!
let me know if you have any more questions.

I wouldn't hold your breath on those Allstar wheels. Friend had them pre-ordered for months and they kept putting him off. Love the car. Need to lower mine a bit more but I need front UCAs. You said you have Ingalls for that IIRC?
#14
Yes, that's correct, the Ingalls UCA's part #s 39203 and 39204 which give -2.0 to +1 & 1/4 degrees of camber.
I should've probably mentioned I have my strut towers cut out in order to sit this low, and the reason I say that is because I had to cut even more to accommodate the Ingalls vs. OEM arms.
Anyhow, only maniacs like myself who want to slam to the ground will cut towers. I'm sure you want to keep some function still, but let me know if I can help at all with those arms.

Dang, that sucks. I really like that wheel. Oh well, I'm sitting on the XXR 968 Work Equip replicas right now that I just got, so it'll probably be a while before I decide to change them. Thanks for the heads up anyway.

I wouldn't mind a bit more in the front, but I like how they fit currently. Running 215/40F (8.5) and 225/40R(9.5) but I'm thinking I might bring those down a couple sizes.
#18
Thanks for the info. I had planned on having the mod the suspension some to sit lower, but I don't think I'll go as low as you are just cause I don't really want to run a ton of camber, but I def want some more low out of it. IIRC I'm at -2 front and -3.5 rear.

Nice color contrast, silver on white looks good. Yeah, you really don't want to run that much camber, tires don't come cheap. I don't know how many degrees I'm at, but gauging by this pic, I'd say -9 or -10 maybe. Passenger side looks worse.
225/40 on 9.5 isn't bad, but yeah you could bring it down a size or too, get a better stretch.
Are you on springs or coils?

AMR coilovers. Def have some more room to go down on the coils, but I'm stuck with fitment in the front until I get new UCAs.
