Your Opinion On This Is Very Important To Me!

Tomorrow is my birthday, yes 9-11. I want to do something to uplift my spirits. Today, I went to a Honda dealership to look and test out the S2000 convertable. I fell in love with it. In short, here's the deal. It will wind up costing me around $ 6000. for a 2002. The 2003's are out next January with no change except a choice of 2 more paint colors. Would you trade in your 2003 CL-S to do this deal? YOUR OPINION IS IMPORTANT TO ME...THANKS.

s2ks are nice...but I don't think it's worth trading in your CL for the s2k because your CL is a 2003. The s2k is roughly the same price as the CL so you'll be losing out. Not worth it. Save it up and buy a s2k and keep the CL or keep the CL for awhile then trade it in.

6K, that's quite a bit.... Damn, the dealers really try to screw us...

But, money aside, I'm a firm believer in getting what you want. And if the S2K is what you want, and you're not going to be in the poor house because of it....

Go for it!!!

NO F'IN WAY that is such a huge loss its insane, you have a 2003 model CL-S and you want to downgrade to a 2002 S2000 for 6 thousand extra dollars?? thats just flat out insane...

The remdeeming feature of this though, is that I get the money back in the re-sale value if I should choose to sell it sometime down the road.

you will lose so much money from that CL-S...a new car depreciates like 15% when you drive it off the lot...

Yeah, well, I suppose you could say that you only live once. I thought it was a nutty thing to do. I guess I just wanted your opinions to help me decide. Thanks for yours.

I'm going to check back on this thread tomorrow morning. If the consenses is to buy it...I will, but if the majority say no, I won't. This should be interesting. Of course I could also say "fug it" to the majority and do what I want anyway...we'll see.

I test drove the s2k for the first time on Saturday. I have to say everything that those magazines have said about the stiffness and the sportiness of the ride is 100% correct. I fell in love as you did.

But with that said I would only buy this car as a secondary "weekend" ride. It's not a practical automobile to drive everyday (especially in freezing Pittsburgh). You loose the extra passenger space, you suffer ride comfort/your back, you have to drive a comvertible year round, you loose a crap load of money for trading in a car. Those are my issues....

happy birthday.

This makes no sense dude. Why did not you decide on this BEFORE you bought the CLS?

Financially, this does not make sense. However, if you dont care about the $$$, then sure, do what you gotta do.

Also, if you choose to go this route, deffinetly give it some serious thought, as s2k is not the most practical of everyday cars, however fun. Shop around as well.

Well true on the resale value, BUT as chikai mentioned...the s2k is definitely a fun "weekend" car, but not very practically as a every-day car. The CL while being bigger, does offer a sporty feel while retaining rather enormous amounts of storage capacity for a coupe. But I definitely would love to have an s2k also. I can see how the s2k would be useful in everyday driving considering it would be much easier to park. What you have to truly decide is...is the $6k loss worth it? To put it in perspective, with $6k you can get the Comptech Superchager for the CL. Or you can get Teins SS, HKS superdragers, CT headers, CT billet cap, AEM CAI, Neuspeed strut bar, 6000k HID bulb upgrades, wheels and tires for about that much on your CL. Pretty much for $6k, you have quite a bit of modding possibilities. Or for the $6k you can have a stock 2002 s2k that is pimping . Also take into consideration what you mainly use the car for. While the s2k is a fun and sporty car to drive, do you have children? And going out on a friday night is easier when you can fit atleast more than 2 people in a car...especially if they're all girls . Honestly, I would hold out...the asking price for the s2k is too ridiculous. The car is mainly all engine, nice seats, fancy start engine, and grossly overpriced as compared to what the CL offers. But in the end, the choice is yours. Your money, your life...we can only offer you the "other side of the coin". Tell us what you choose and more importantly...post pics!

chikai hit it right on the nose.
pappy, I feel ya and I know what you are going through.
I LOVE the CL-S. I won't trade it in. And in the Colorado winter, the front wheel drive is good.
I want an S2K to complement the CL-S. Aggressive, sporty, good looking convertible. Man it is sweet. Compare it to a Boxster or a TT and you'll see that the S2K is still a bargain for what it is.
CL-S is very livable, and as others have noted, the S2K is a fun ass car to drive, but hope you aren't planning to take more than one person with you god forbid any luggage.
Buying a car is NOT an investment. You have to go with what you can afford and how the car will make you feel. That being said, with a crap stock market and such, I'm finding it much easier to justify the purchase of "fun stuff".
I think you are being fed a bad deal though. I'd keep the CL-S if I had to choose. I have to keep mine for the winter and for other needs and I'd use the S2K for weekend and summer only. You are in sunny Florida, maybe your needs and requirements are different.
You've got a great car. If you truly, truly love the S2K so much that it makes the CL-S, god forbid, not fun to drive because you are thinking of the S2K, maybe think about selling your CL-S privately and then buying a low mileage S2K or travel to Chicago where S2Ks go for about $30k new. Then have the car shipped to you. Selling privately and travelling to Chicago for the S2K will probably save you thousands of $$$s.
Again, that is if the finances are important to you. If the feelings are more important, then do the deal and have no regrets.
Best of luck with your decision.
Either way, you've got a cool ass car that is fun to drive.

If I were you, it would make all practical sense to keep your Cl.
Or you could trade your Cl in for a del sol and make a profit on the deal.

I agree with peiqinglong about what you could do with $6k and the CL. I think I would have more fun with a supercharged CL-S with I/H/E and upgraded suspension than I would with a stock S2000. Keep the CL, spend the money.

why'd you get an automatic CL-S if your considering a S2k ??? don't supercharge it if it's auto...you'll ruin your tranny, then you won't have no money left to fix it...
if you have money like that (6 g's to toss around)...might as well get the S2K....but you should look into a 350Z, faster, A LOT more torque, and cheaper, you might have to wait a little, but it'll probably be worth it!
either way your losing money... just up to you how much you wanna lose....

As a a former 3 month owner of the S2000, good choice. Too small, scary fast when rpms reach 7000, too noisy, heat comes into the cockpit from that monster engine (hotfoot)--but a hell of a lot fun at 9000 rpms.

You have already decided for yourself and you just don't realize it!
If you thought it was a prudent thing to do, you would have done it. Since you are really hesitating in making the change, you know it's not the right decision to trade in your car! Think about it Sometimes, we are in a similar situation as you are, not necessarily cars, but if we just delay the buying decision for a while, then you will make a better judgement.

Happy Bday Pappy....

I think you made a wise decision...both cars are fun, but the CL-S is a larger car and, IMO, would provide a better sense of security and safety. Been in an accident in my '98 GSR and that wasn't too fun, but I feel much better in my '03 CL-S!

Enjoy the ride!
